I just bought an M515 off ebay. It seemed to be fully charged and working well when it first arrived. I had a few problems loading the software and synching, but I think I worked out those problems. But when I went to charge the unit, it wouldn't charge. I plugged in the synch cord to the unit and to the running computer but the battery symbol didn't show it was recharging. I plugged the cord into the ac adapter, and the adapter's light showed it was working, but again the unit's battery symbol didn't show recharging and the battery level stayed the same. I tried a soft reset, no change. I tried a hard reset but goofed and took my finger off the on button too soon. Now the unit won't even turn on and appears dead. Gaak! Any advice?

Re: Hard reset and charging problems
Do the hard reset again .. hold the power button down while operating the reset in the back .. keep the power button down for a few seconds .. that should bring up a display "delete all" .. you can choose to do so .. that will be a hard reset .. now if the battery is dead and the charger is not working then nothing will work for you .. you might have a bad charger .. often the end that plugs into the unit develops a broken wire inside the cable ..
the m515 wont charge from the sync cable (shame) it needs the external power adapter .. make sure the connections on the charger and palm are clean .. the power adapter is 5 volts and i think about 1 amp .. )(center pos) if you want to try another adapter .. the tip is rather standard ... also you can get a universal power adapter from radio shack that will work on just about anything .. you just plug in a suitable tip .. the tip for your palm is an "A19" .. the power adapter is "IGO" wall adapter 23-1401 model PSM08VADJ ... that seems to work nicely and it plugs directly in to the palm .. so you can work with it plugged in .. when the charger is working there should be a lightning bolt thru the battery symbol .. it sounds like you already know that .. if the battery has gone open then it may not indicate a charge .. but the unit should still work while on the charger if that is actually working ....

HOpe you did the hard reset by pressing and holding home +power and then alt+w .
Does pressing and holding camera and power gives you the bootloader ( Hboot ) screen . IF yes , try reset from there .

hi betty .. the m515 is a nice machine still, and worth getting to know .. the card slot is for storing extra things its not needed to run the m515 ( you can put in an SD card if you want to store a lot of stuff but the m515 has lots of memory inside already ... you can charge the battery or run the unit on the charger ... push the top right button and the unit should come to life .. if you hold the on/off button for a few seconds then it will turn on or off the display backlight .. if the unit fails to start then you can do a "reset" .. that will reboot the machine and fixes most problems.. the top of the stylus unscrews .. this gives you a small probe that can be used to reset the machine .. on the back near the top is a hole marked "reset" .. poke the probe in there to reboot the palm ... if you want to do a "hard reset" (erases all data) then hold the power button in while you poke the reset .. that will give you a choice to "erase everything" .. if you chose to do that then you would be starting the palm like it came out of the factory .. all phone numbers and such would be erased ... that should get you going .. there is a tutorial included in the palm that can get you started .. if it works on the charger but not on the battery or if the battery goes dead quickly then new batteries are not expensive but you need a really small torx tool to get the back off to change it .. you can take it with you to the hardware to match it up with one .. if the battery is ok then you should be enjoying you palm about now ..
the m515 uses a Lithium battery .. the modern version of those batteries have a built in safety feature .. once its first activated then it monitors its own voltage .. if the voltage is ever allowed to go below a certain value then it will refuse to accept a charge ... when it tells you that the battery is dead its actually well above that critical voltage .. but if you let it sit for a long time then self discharge can bring it below the critical value .. when the battery is in that forbiden region then there is a chance that it will grow copper links through its insulator .. then when you try to charge it it could get very hot .. even explode .. so thats why the safety feature .. there are ways to jump start the battery and some people do that .. but you can see there is some risk .. the battery in that palm is not hard to change and they are not expensive but you need a very small torques driver to get the case apart .. i just took my 515 to the hardware and had them match it up with the proper tool .. there are kits available also that have a new battery and the proper tools to take the m515 apart .. of course they cost more..
make sure you have the external charger hooked up to the cradle .. it wont charge from the USB port voltage as i recall on this model..
the lightning bolt is normal ..its telling you the battery is being charged .. if you get an error code or if the unit quits working then you can do a reset or a "hard reset" ... the hard reset erases everything and will restore the unit to factory conditions .. to do a reset .. unscrew the top of the stylus .. that gives you a probe to push the reset button on the back (top) .. if you hold the power button in while you do a reset then it gives you a choice to "erase everything" .. if you accept then thats a hard reset ... if everything else fails .. do a hard reset .. you can do all this while its on the charger so if you have a bad battery that wont matter .. if the battery wont hold a charge then it can be replaced ..
try turning it on while its on the charger .. if that works then you might need a new battery .. if it doesnt then do a "reset" ... unscrew the top off the stylus and use it to push the reset button on the back (top center) ... if that doesnt get it going then you can do a hard reset but that will erase all your information (like telephone numbers and such) ... you do a hard reset by holding down the on/off button while pushing the reset .. if it works on the charger but quits when on battery then you need a new battery ..
if the unit was new then you would charge it for about 10 hours .. but since its not likely new then it doesnt hurt anything to just leave it on charge ... you can even operate the palm while its charging .. over night charge should be enough to get pretty close to full ... the palm internally automatically turns off the charge when the battery is full .. so you dont have to worry about over charging .. if the unit wont come on then you can do a "reset" (back at top)
you should try to do a hard reset.
While holding down on the far left (calendar) and far right (iTask) press in on the reset button (reset hole) with your stylus for about 2-3 seconds. The Pocket PC should reset and power back on. If the device does not power back on, make sure that the battery lock switch is to the left (locked).
Hey, i had the same problem. My m515 stayed with the green light on for 3 days until the battery died out (and lost all my data). I keep the m515 off and without recharge for 2 more days. Then I recharge it in its craddle and it seems to be ok.
