Question about HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook

Laptop lid actuator switch is loose

I've noticed the actuator switch is loose on my hp dv1000 laptop but don't know how to repair it. I have to jiggle this plunger around to make the screen light up but after a few seconds the screen goes dark again

I took part of the computer apart and accessed this switch but don't know how to reconnect or what to reconnect it to. Underneath the actual plunger I can see a tiny rubber thing but it looks impossible to connect the two together.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is common problem. To get to that you'll have to take everything apart including motherboard. It's part of the top case. You'll have to bend it up for it to work or completely disable it permanently.

Good day I have an hp pavilion dv1000 laptop and have recenently upgraded to Windows vista premium and now do not have sound nor any drivers to support.

Have you tried the XP Drivers? I know it sounds impossible, but most XP drivers will work for Vista, especially sound drivers, since they don't use special programs to run. I hope this will solve your problem, if not, don't hesitate to come back! Thanks for using FixYa, have a great day.

Kenmore 70 series/model 110.20712.990 The washer washes, then fills to rinse and then stops and the timer stops moving. Could it be the timer?

The most common cause of the problem you just described is a lid switch malfunction or lid strike (actuator) problem. Symptoms may include, filling and stopping on the intial fill cycle, stopping right after the wash cycle, not advancing to rinse or spin cycles, and a wash tub that will not drain.

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike" or "Actuator") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3557193-replacing_a_lid_switch

On some models, the lid switch is located under the top casing by one of the lid hinges. You will know if you if you have this type of switch, because it does NOT have a lid strike (actuator) and the small hole on the right hand side of the wash tub will not be present. This type of switch is actuated (toggled) by a rod on the lid hinge. With this type of switch, if you locate it and it can be toggled by hand, you may only need to adjust the actuator rod by bending it slightly.

NOTE: You do not have to drain or bail the water from the washer tub to perform this repair. Once a defective lid switch is replaced, the washer should drain normally.

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The average price of a replacement lid switch is about $25 - $35 if you perform the repair yourself. Prices will vary between sites so shop and compare. The lid switch part number for the model you have listed is 3949238. The lid strike (actuator) is 350733.
If you have questions, or need additional assistance, please post back and let me know. This is a very simple repair that you can easily perform without the assistance of a repairman.

If this advice does not help you enough, repairclinic.com has a Repair Manual you can order to assist you with all your repairs. The part number is 1170635 and is priced at about $20.

Searspartsdirect.com also has a repair manual for about the same price. Part number 4314044L. I hope this information is helpful to you.

I have a hp pavilion dv1000 laptop and it randomly hibernates

Go to the control panel > Power Options, click on the hibernation tab and uncheck it. Click on apply and ok. Hibernation can damage older HP systems such as the DV1000 that is running XP, make sure it is turned off and also go through the power settings and change the setting for closing the lid on the laptop. Change the setting to "Do Nothing". This will keep your system from getting corrupt.

Screen dim HP pavilion dv1000

The lid actuator switch may not be working correctly. It's a small switch above the keyboard and led's on either the right or left side. Try pressing it 2 or 3 times to see if the display starts working correctly again. If so, it will need to be replaced.

If that doesn't work, you can also turn it on with the ac adapter plugged in. After it boots, press the power button and hold it in until it shuts off and then turn it on again and see if the display has returned to normal.

If neither of these options work, your laptop may need to have the backlight replaced.

HP Pavilion dv1000 works fine on CRT but no LCD screen

Sounds like the LCD backlight or inverter went bad. More probably the inverter, and that's good because,of the two, it's usually cheaper and easier to replace.
Before considering those, check the lid switch to make sure that it is operating correctly and not stuck down.

HP dv1000 monitor just stopped working.

Description During the startup or boot process of the notebook, the display is very dim and barely readable. It remains dim when it reaches the Windows desktop. Restart the notebook with AC power Perform the following steps to determine if the dim display is due to a hardware failure:
  1. Connect the AC adapter to the notebook and a working electrical outlet.
  2. Power down the notebook PC by pressing and holding the Power button for 5 seconds.
  3. Press the Power button again to start the computer.
If the display is still dim after restarting with the AC adapter connected try changing the LCD brightness. Change the LCD brightness From the Windows desktop, hold the Fn key and press the F7 and F8 keys to increase or decrease the brightness of the display. If using the function keys does not resolve the problem, determine whether the Lid Actuator switch is stuck. NOTE: The key number may vary depending on the notebook PC. The image on the key should resemble the following images: Figure 1: Brightness Level Down c00776225.jpg Figure 2: Brightness Level Up c00776226.jpg NOTE: During battery power operation, the notebook display will dim to reserve battery power. Adjust brightness control using the control panel Some notebook PCs have the ability to adjust the brightness through video drivers. If the notebook PC has video drivers with this capability, perform the following steps:
  1. Click Start , Control Panel and then double click Display .
  2. Select the Settings tab and click Advanced .
  3. If the feature is available, a tab with the video card name will be present. If it is, select that tab.
  4. Adjust the desired brightness.
Finding the Lid Actuator switch The Lid Actuator switch is a small button or switch located above the keyboard and LEDs on the right or left side of the notebook. It may also be located near the display hinges. Pressing this switch when the computer is on may turn the notebook display off or cause the notebook to enter a different power state. Press the switch 2-3 times while observing the display. If the display is no longer dim the switch may need to be repaired. Contact HP service and support for further assistance. Contact HP service and support If the display remains dim after the troubleshooting in this document it may be possible that the backlight is damaged.
