Question about Olympus Camedia C-740 Ultra Zoom Digital Camera

1 Answer

Lost images I have an Olympus C-740 with an Olympus XD 128MB picture card. After taking numerous photos they are not on the card when I go to download. This has happened three times now with more than 100 photos. We see the numbers ticking down as we take photos and have been able to review them on the card. I have inserted the card into a card reader and they are not there. To top it off I am running Windows Vista so I am not able to find any downloads that might help. Could the review selector be faulty and it is deleting all images? What else could cause this, because we haven't been reviewing the images since the first time this happened and they are still deleting off the card?

Re: lost images

Take out the memory card from the camera and try it in another camera used this type of memory card and it will let you know if the problem is with your camera or your memory card. In case you will found out that the problem is with the memory card - you need for a data recovery software to recover your pictures. There are a lot of recovery software's at the market and some of them are even for free. Look for it in the internet, under "memory card recovering pictures" Good luck

After taking about 15-20 pictures our camera shows card error message. We download the pics onto our computer and reformat as the camera says to do...but should the camera hold more pictures than that?

It sounds like the card is damaged, it should take a lot more photos than that.

The C-50 takes an XD memory card. These are different sizes. For example a 256mb size will take hundreds of photographs.

The C-50 is quite old and there are now different types of XD cards. It might be best to get a 128mb XD card.

The Olympus website says:
Please contact Olympus authorized distributor or service center in your region for the information about
using xD-Picture Card 512MB, 1GB or 2GB
I hope this helps.

Olympus xd card formatting problems.

If you like the camera and XD cards then I would use the USB cable to download the photos from the camera. When you plug the USB cale into the camera and then into the computer, the computer should recognize the camera and set it up as another disk drive. Copy or move the pictures from the card to your Photo location. Use the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray to disconnect the camera and your done. The camera can format the XD card and the computer can read it through the camera.

Accidentally erased all images on image card

As long as the xD card was not formatted it is possible to recover the images that were accidently erased, lost or corrupted. You can go to the following website link and download an image recovery software program that is free of charge.
You want to download a program called Zero Assumption Recovery. It is a very simple program to use and many people have had much success in recovering lost images.

Data recovery is a booming industry, and many appropriate services and software can be found by searching regional phone and business directories or the Internet for terms such as "image recovery" or "data recovery".

Olympus xD-Picture Card "Card Error"

First things first - need to make sure that the card is making proper electrical contact with the camera. Have a look at the contacts at the edge of the card and make sure they are spotlessly clean - even a fingerprint may cause problems.

Also, make sure the contacts in the camera have nothing causing a contact problem, and see if this resolves the issue.

Regards, Andy

Card is Full message displayed

Have you removed the old picture in your 128MB? It might be full already, transfer them to your computer to have the space.

XD 1GB card

i think it's just 'cos of the sheer size of the memory it has to access. mine works quite quickly but when i put in a 512 it takes a lot longer i would not say there is anything wrong - just teh limitations of a device which was designed when even 128MB was a luxury ricardi, shropshire

I do, it works fine but if you want to use the panorama function you have to have the olympus brand card.
