Storm keyboard missing characters and scrambled

When trying to make a call my keypad is sometimes missing numbers and its scrambled. I pull the battery as a fix right now but that is getting annoying. It takes too long. Any help out there especially to prevent this?

Blackberry storm keyboard keeps changing and grouping letters into one key even in landscape mode. I can't get the qwerty keyboard to come back unless I take out the battery and reset. What a pain in the A**.. Happening way to often. Really starting to miss my treo.

Type character map in your windows search box and select the font you require. You may need to download the windows language pack for each language you use.

How to type @ symbol

I am not familiar with this particular keyboard, but it sounds like you are not finding that symbol (@) on the keyboard. On most keyboards it seems to be the shift of the "2" key (at the top of the keyboard, not on a separate number keypad). I checked keyboards from three manufacturers, and that was the case on all three. However, if that key is not working properly, you could define "(a)" or something similar to be auto-corrected to the "@" symbol. Finally, you could try typing the ASCII character by a keystroke combination such as Alt-0064. In MS Word, when I type that combination (make sure to use the numeric keypad, not the number row keys), I get the "@" symbol. The same works in many programs.

Keyboard not functioning

It may be a fault in the keyboard driver or in the keyboard itself. However if the character you need is not available on the keyboard directly it is possible to get any character by using the ASCII char code entry method. First off search the internet for a ASCII character number associating table (for a chart I like best, check here http://michaelgoerz.net/blog/2008/09/ascii-table/ascii.gif) now on this chart you have to use common fonts (IE: Ariel, times new roman, ect.) because some of the TTF fonts do not have all the characters in them available.
Now to practice using the characters, load Notepad and find the character you want to display from the chart (note: the number like 000d and 00h actually means 000 decimal and 00 hexadecimal, only use the number with the "d" after it with this method), on Notepad, after you pick out the character you want to display, press and hold the ALT key, and on your keypad (on most keyboards it is on the right side and resembles a calculator type keypad) while holding the ALT key down enter the number of the character you want to display (do not include the "d", only the number) then release the ALT key and that character should display for you in Notepad. Almost all standard fonts has the regular characters and some has the extended characters, you will have to check to see if the font uses them by trial and error. this method is a long lost forgotten means of putting characters into your documents which does not have keys on a standard keyboard (most standard keyboards only have 101 keys so this is the only way of using all the 255 character available in common fonts).
This is a built in function of all computers that uses Microsoft OS's and even DOS, HDOS, EDOS, (well all the DOS's), and you can use them anywhere you can type anything from your keyboard, (emails, letters, databases, spread sheets, etc.) if you can type from the keyboard to any program you can use these characters in this manner.
I hope this help you out!

What is the keyboard combination for Ñ in a

Alt+0241

On Windows, the Alt key functions as a modifier like the Shift key. To make special characters, hold down the Alt key and type in the numbers from the numeric keypad. Note that on the some small keyboards (e.g. laptop keybaords) the “numeric keypad” is found by pressing the NumLock key and then looking for the keys on your keyboard that double as numeric keypad keys when in NumLock mode.

Keyboard will not work

Try this and see if this works for you. Touch Keypad simulates a wireless phone keypad on the touch screen to allow you to enter text, numbers, and symbols just as if you were using a wireless phone keypad. Touch Keyboard simulates a 20-key QWERTY (typewriter) keyboard on the touch screen to allow you to enter text, numbers, and symbols similar to the way you would using a QWERTY keyboard. To use Touch Keypad or Touch Keyboard:  In a program, tap the Input Selector arrow, and then tap Touch Keypad or Touch Keyboard. To type lowercase letters, tap the keys on the dial pad or keyboard. To type a single uppercase letter, tap the Shift key and then tap the corresponding key. To type all uppercase letters, tap the Shift key twice. To change back to all lowercase letters, tap again. To enter a space after the word, tap the Space key. To start a new line, tap the Enter key. To backspace and delete a single character in any input mode, press the Back key. To open the Symbol pad, tap the Symbol key. To change the input mode:  Tap the Input mode key to switch to a different input mode: XT9 (predictive), Multitap (abc), or Numeric (123).
Let me know if this works for you, if not let me know.

ALT Codes

I'm a little late to the game, but...
I share James's frustration. Seems like a dumb thing for Dell to economize on. Here's my workaround, for what it's worth.
  1. Open the Windows on-screen keyboard (osk.exe). And, for later ease of use, pin it to your taskbar. (Detailed instructions: click on the Windows start button, type osk.exe in the search box, right-click on the program, select Pin to Taskbar.)
  2. On the virtual keyboard, open Options and select "Turn on the numeric keypad." After saving the setting, press the NumLock button.
  3. Here's the tricky bit: press and hold Alt on your physical keyboard, and then press and hold Fn, again on your physical keyboard. You're holding them both down, right? Keep doing it. Now enter your four-digit code on the virtual (on-screen) keyboard. Release the physical keys. You should have your special character.
Hope it works for you.
