Typically, a jammed lens is due to foreign matter getting inside it or a gear damaged by some kind of force. The lens is not normally serviceable and would most likely need to be replaced by a service centre.

Could be one of the ribbon cables is loose. If you can open the camera and reseat all the ribbon cables. If the lens makes an ugly grinding noise the gears to the lens are chewed up. You can go to esupport.sony.com for a flat rate repair quote. Hope this helps.

I have a EX-S600 Casio. When I turn it on the lens pops out, I get 3 audible beeps, hear some grinding and then the lens retracts and the camera shuts off, it all takes about about 6 to 7 seconds. I've...

If you hear a grinding then it's toast. Any issue with the mechanism would cost more to have repaired than replaced. This usually happens as a result of the lens being bumped while open or opened in a bag. Or, a contaminate such as sand inside the body of the camera.

Camera shuts off after E18 error code

You have most likely dropped the camera or banged it against something while the lens was out. This situation causes the brass pinion gear to shear teeth off the plastic ring gear on the Inner Lens Housing. It may also cause the guide pins to jump their track. If this is the case the repair bill usually exceeds the value of the camera and you are probably better off selling it for parts on eBay and getting a new higher resolution camera.

Camera will no power up

I had the same problem and even sent the camera out to be repaired. It worked for about 2 weeks and then the same thing happened. I was looking on the internet for help and someone said to pull on the silver part around the lens because when it shut off this part was still sticking out some. I pulled on it a little bit and the camera started working again.

Lens only comes half way out

I had a problem that may be related to yours. From time to time, whenever I opened the cover, the lens wouldn't work properly. It would make a grinding noise and then when I took pictures they would all come out out of focus. After much fiddling about, I eventually discovered that if I set ALL RESET to FALSE on the SETUP menu, it returned to normal. Possibly this could fix your problem. Otherwise maybe its a battery problem. My camera sometimes refuses to take pictures when the battery is low.

SD200 E18 Error

E18 is the error that comes when when the lens is stuck, so if the lens is stuck out, turn off the camera, carefully turn the lens until you hear a small clicking noise, then turn it on. I had the exact same problem, and that fixed it for me

Lens won't open!

Had the same problem with my Canon SD550. I'm guessing that after the lens tries to erect itself the camera powers down? If this is the case, your lens is cocked perhaps from being dropped or bent in some way. There also might be debris lodged in there. This could result from keeping it in a purse or a pocket without a case. Try sticking a thin piece of paper to try and remove the debris if this seems to be the case.

Lens stuck

If the lens is not coming out, its stuck, or it wont completely open or close, that is the lens assembly, that needs to be repaired. You need to take it to somebody, that can either repair it or replace it for you. There is nothing that can be done, other than that......

This comes up when the lens sticks. Try removing the colar around the lens, then turn the camera on/off and give it a "little help" to open or close, it's probably just a little stuck
