Question about Acer AL1914 19" LCD Monitor
Same problem ....had 3 acer al1914 flatscreens with same problem.
3 capicitors in the powersupply blown 470 uf 25 volt
replace these with high quailty and high temp ones
and problem solved.
Powersupply heating up these caps and dries them out
and are faulty due to this.
You have to open the flatcreen to get acces to these
and have to desolder and solder the new ones back in.
Easy job if have some soldering skills
Hope this helps

How can I remove the the back area of the monitor?

The power supply has probbably blown. Not repairable by unskilled labour unless you would like to check the fuse which is a little round black item near the area where you plug the unit into mains. be careful when removing the back cover. first the screws then it unclipps from the grey front frame. do not put pressure on the screen itself. It may damage. Good luck, Kind Regards Justin (Justronics S.A.)
