SOURCE: What external power does SmartDisk FireLite FWFL120-N take?

Many USB power supplies will have the right plug. I picked one up by buying a cheap USB hub, What you want to look for (most likely on the bottom of the power supply) is VOLTAGE Output: 5.0 VDC, POWER Output: 1.0 amp or (1000ma) and the center hole is the positive side. I have even seen some BluTooth earpiece charges that supply what you need.

Hope that this will help.

HOW DO I CONNECT FWFL120 & 250 TO MACBOOK AIR?

Mac OsX users must install driver software into their MacBooks to use it. Go to the mfr's home page and download the driver into your Mac Air and it should work fine for you.

I have firelite external and it's not working. There's light but no spinning sound. what can I do?

This a firewire drive and needs to plugged into a firewire port to spin up. If you do not have a firewire port on your computer (most PC's don't) it will not work. I don't believe a firewire to USB connector will pass enough power to the drive to spin it up.

Need to know what AC adapter to use with my Firelite. Have a number of AC adapters but not sure which one goes with my unit

First ..this is an usb disk ..and usually it does not need an external power supply but in special cases when it is plugged in something it can not sustain it ..i understood it does have a power supply plug ..but ..I repeat ..it should work on the usb alone ..and get the power from it ..
If you experience some issues and need to know if ti will work when you power it external ..the values are written on the back of teh drive ..or near the plug ..You will only need to have the right jack ..and the voltage to match ..beware of any higher voltage ..it may damage it right the way ..

When I plug my smartdisk firelite USBFLB40C into the usb port it says it needs to be formated. What is the problem?

If it is new and has not come pre formatted then you need to format it to match the system as it still could be in RAW state, but I would expect usb devices to be preformatted. (not always the case though)

A bit of history:-

FAT32 recognised by all windows systems ( but does not support files more than 4GB)

NTFS recognised by systems other than FAT32 (and supports files above 4GB)

FAT 32 was the native format for WIN98 but unfortunately when XP came along many companies continued to format in FAT32 for XP machines especially for the home user. (and XP would run quite happily with the format)

NTFS was and is the more stable of the two.

My firelite smartdisk model cord does not fit into my new macbook air. can i buy a cord that has a usb port at one end? thx

The MacBook Air has one USB port. Most computer stores have many different plugs on the other end that will fit your SmartDisk. Most of the SmartDisk units use the mini USB plug. It is the same as many digital cameras use.

Tiger Direct, and MicroCenter also have many different adapters, and adapter kits to use on all kinds of USB devices.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if there are any more questions.

PS: I use a 160GB SmartDisk on all of my Macs, and PCs. Get way to move data without conflicts.
