Vw golf mk4 gti

my front passenger window suddenly dropped into the door. i have been told by a scrap merchant and a mechanic that i will need to buy the complete inside door panel which has the window motor, speaker and wiring attached to it. (all of which still work) i have also been told that it is just a wire which holds up the window and it is probably this which has snapped but i still need to buy the door panel which has the wire attached to it and is a nightmare to fit. i would like to know what to get and if i can fit it myself because i have seen a window regulator for sale on the net which has the wire holding up the window and some other things but not the whole door panel. can i just get this and where can i find out how to fit it? thankyou
