If you want to play blu ray movies you will need power dvd either version 7, 8 or the latest version ( you will need to check the supported formats of what each version plays to decipher what it will play back )

As for being able to burn what version of nero do you use and do you have any other burning software installed ie InCD ?

DVD Writer Model SH-S223 dont read

Hi firma,

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but check ou tthis link to the SH -S223F firmware:

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/FIRMWARE/Samsung/Samsung-SH-S223F-DVD-Writer-Firmware-SB03.shtml

I also found this:
This optical drive is a Plug 'n Play device in Windows OS's. The only requirement is connection to a WORKING SATA controller. Check in Device Manager to insure the sata controller is working/enabled and you shouldn't have any problem. Windows will auto-detect / auto-install the drive without user intervention once this condition has been met.

Additionally, you will need 3rd. party recording and dvd decoding software in order to use all the functions this drive was built to perform, ie: play dvd movie disks and record to dvd and cd-rw disks. Windows is sorta limited on what all it will support.... that's the reason for the additional 3rd. party software like Nero or Roxio and PowerDVD or WinDVD.

Here is a link to InfraRecorder:
http://infrarecorder.org/

WinDVD:

PowerDVD:

Nero:

Hope this helps, let me know how you made out in a comment, if you need more help, feel free to ask in the comment.

The latest upgrade is ver 1.9. It is a downloadable ISO in zip file format. Samsung recommends Nero to burn this. Burn this to a CD-R not a DVD. I also suggest burning at a slow speed... IE 10x and trying high quality media IE .... Verbatim. 90% of the problems are related to poor quality media or too high a burn speed. This disk has to be highly accurate for it to work correctly. I've updated over 40 of these particular players.

Once we have recorded a show off the tv onto DVD we are unable to play the dvd of the recorded show on different dvd players than the one in which we recorded it off

if you are using dvd+ - R dvd disks you will need to finalize the disks on your recorder once you are done with the recording before it can be played on other players

Samsung dvd recorder

Make sure you have finalised the disk, otherwise it won't play back on other players. Also there are two standards that you can use to record onto disks, video mode or VR mode. Video mode was the original standard but it wouldn't let you edit or add anything to the recording afterwards but it is more compatible with other players. VR mode allows you to edit the recording but is less compatible for playback on other players.
