Question about eMachines T3656 Celeron 440 1GB DDR2 160GB Intel GMA 950 Windows Vista Home Basic PC Desktop
Hello, I have an emachine 160, It's OS is win xp with the latest microsoft upgrades and it's seriously infected with malware. A week ago I was browsing a web page and I was asked to update real player. I trusted it was genuine clicked on it to be bombarded by pop ups, the rest is history PC froze and after a manual reboot all I can get to is sign in.
I can sign into windows on my user account that takes me to my desktop with no icons, start button, nothing completely empty apart from my theme.
If I attempt to ctrl>alt>del at this stage pc logs me off immediately with the message" closing network connections".
This PC is networked and I can access it's shared files from my main home PC,but Cannot get into it's registry remotely to see what is going on,I have tried everything,it just gives me the message "computer can not be found "etc.I am guessing this is a security issue to protect the defunct PC.
This PC came with no XP disk,a story much repeated over the net,and unfortunately I have no system recovery disk with it.
I am at a loss I have tried everything over the last week and for someone who is actually extremely security aware I could kick myself at my stupidity.
Can anyone suggest a way I can access the registry via my home network as I feel this is the only solution to recover this PC .
I do not really want to go out and purchase a new copy of WIN XP , as most scenarios I have read up on states with this problem winxp restore freezes and it doesnt help at all.
Sorry for the long post but I am at the stage of tearing my hair out.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Did you try tapping F8 and running it in safe mode with networking ?? If you havent tried, try it and see if it works.. If it does, try downloading smitfraudfix and run it to clear malwares.Reboot and see if it helps !!
Can try running malware bytes if it works fine with safe mode...
Hope it helps !

Jayne you can download what you need from either emachines or microsoft because you have a COA that is the label with windows registration number.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
