Use windows media player classic or video lan ( would use video lan ( http://www.videolan.org/vlc )

short of that you would have to pay for software like power dvd.

Windows media player cannot play dvd video. you might need to adjust your windows display settings

Your Windows Media Player couldn't play DVD format because maybe you forgot to select such file type for which you want WMP to be the default player. To troubleshoot this problem please see the following steps:
  • Step 1: Open your Windows Media Player
  • Step 2: Right click the bottom portion of the player and select TOOLS then OPTIONS

  • Step 3: Go to File Types menu and and check DVD video then click APPLY

PROBLEM READING RE-FORMATTED DVD+RW Using Windows Vista, I erase DVD+RWs. When I do, my DVR and my DVD Player won't read them, saying ''no disc''. Benhoward184

I would check your media you are buying ....common problem in "cheap" dvd+RW media.

Another option: buy a eye cleaning disk from BB or anywhere else and run the software....a dirty laser and easily cause media "mess-ups."

Cannot play dvds. says my Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.

Chances are you need the proper codec to run the DVD. Software companies often write their own 'interpreter' software to read the format they use to encode videos/music files.

Trying doing a search on the internet for the type of file format Windows Media Player is trying to run, then look for the codec for that format. Unless the format is copyright protected, Microsoft should have the codec available on their website.

How can i play AVI files on my media center/player on vista

Hi,
Windows Vista Media Center won’t play Xvid and Avi files, even if Windows Media Player will play these files. If you want to add support for third party codecs including Xvid and Avi files in Vista Media Center then you need to install the media control plugin for Windows Vista Media Center.
To install the Codec please click on the below link or copy the URL and paste it in your web browser..
http://damienbt.free.fr/index.php#download
This plugin allows Windows Vista Media Center to utilize te FFDShow decoder, which needs to be installed seperately ((FFDShow rev 1108 recommended: download the last version from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout)) FFDShow adds support to Vista for MPEG-4 video formats like DivX, Xvid, H.264 and also alllows MP3, AAC, Dolby AC3, and OGG Vorbis audio files to be played back.
have any other queries, please let me know..
Thank you.....

Vista home premium

there is no problems about your system. Its maybe your systems is lack media "codecs" that enhance your DVD files or Movies to play. maybe you should download any HD dvd codecs and install to your system. or may search google the "media player classic" and use as your player or VLC player preety cool player for almost movies.
