My computer didnt recognize my hard disk

Dear All,

more than six months ago, i had problem with my harddisk, i hear some wear voice coming from my computer case, i thought its the van, so I did shake the case, after that I finished my work in the computer, turn it of, next time I tried to turn on my computer, it didn’t work, the computer didn’t recognize it, I tried every thing with jumper, then I tried to connect the harddisk to other computers, the same problem I had, but on of these computers recognize my harddisk with 0.0GB, and when I went to my computer icon to check partitions, no other partition I had, so what is this problem. Is it bad sector or what, and can any body help me to solve this problem, because I have very very important data on that harddisk.

Thankx in advance.
Best regards,

- Hard disk kind is not SATA it is IDE.
- i connect the hard disk to another computer as Slave, and when i boot the computer, it shown Disk: 80 GB the hard disk on the computer which is working properly, then
Disk: 0.00 MB WDC Rom Model --MAMMOTH--
and when i check device manager the hard disk show there with the same (WDC Rom Model --MAMMOTH--), but no extra partition i have, more than the partitions on the working Harddisk.

Looks like the controller on the Hard disk has malfunctioned. I am afraid, that the Hard disk has to be sent to an expert nearby for Data Recovery. They would have tools which could be used for getting your data intact. But again it all depends on the level of damage to the Hard disk. You may get all / some of your data ot you may get none. Please consult your hardware vendor for this

Harddisk not detected by system

Do you see the drive light on and can you hear the fan on your disk? If yes then try using a different usb port and a different usb cable. Check to see if there are any other drives with the same drive letter.

You can find this by right mouse clicking my computer, select manage, select disk drive manager see if the drive is recognized and if it trying to use the same letter as another. If so change the letter and it will be seen.

If zcomputerwiz solutions don't work, then remove the disk from the chassis, and install it into any desktop PC. It should show up as a regular harddisk, and you will be able to access your data. I have successfully done this with my WD MyBook Extreme Edition that had stopped being recognized by my desktop and laptop. Now its a regular drive in my desktop PC without the use of any special savior software. Good Fixin!!!

It wont rocognise the hard disk but will pick up everything eslse

Change ide or sata cable.
Also change power cable of smps to harddisk.
Make sure your harddisk set as master with jumper settings.
Read jumper settings on harddisk then set harddisk as master.
Then check in bios.
Change ide or sata ports on motherbord then check.

Transcend 160GB Portable Hard Disk is not recognized by computer

when you power up the computer press F2 or "del" key to enter in bios then go to usb option and enable usb 2.0 legacy. then save settings .
then check.
some times usb speed make issue so try this.
Also check your usb cable working fine try with other usb cable.
Also check harddisk jumper settings.
If still face problems then you need to repair it.
You shuold take it to service shop becasue you try with 10 computers and all gives same error then your harddisk has hardware issue.
try above solution .
Thanks for using fixya.
Please rate my solution if it helps you.

Seems like the harddisk is broken, and it's not really fixable... The good news, however, is that after 6 months the warranty should still be acxtive, so you can send it back to Seagate and get a new one. I hope this answers your question, Yannick.

My computer didn't recognize my harddis

Ok, the data may not be lost.
Need info:

- what kind of HD
- what operating system you use; windows?
- what kind of HD, is it a SATA drive?
- When you boot, (windows) do you see the drive (the faulty one) note the drive make and model number
- is this the BOOT drive or you just use it for data?

the home computer has a small chip onits mother board called disk controller. its this controller which recognises it.so the software driver is corrupt and needs reinstallation or the hard ware controller is faulty.
