Question about Sony VAIO VGN-C140G/B Notebook
Hope you can point me in the right direction.
I have a Sony Vaio (not sure of model as its at home) which developed a problem a few days ago.
The screen started to flicker and then went off.
After a lot of trying different things the summary is detailed below.
1) Running on battery all is ok except dimmer screen for power saving.
2) Plug in power adaptor and within 10 seconds the screen will flicker for a bit then go off.
3) The rest of the laptop seems to function ok as it will display on external monitor.
4) When power is removed screen will reactivate when changed back from monitor mode to laptop screen.
Many thanks in advance
You could have a faulty inverter but
You most likely have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.
Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
