Try re-installing your system audio driver. can you specify what model your laptop is? I hav e a dv2000 series laptop also, but its model is dv2202ca. the model is located on the bottom of your laptop.
go to this site:
then select the proper model, then choose either xp or vista,then look for "Driver- AUdio" and download them, then run the files to re-install your drivers!
