Question about Canon Digital Rebel XT / EOS 350D Body only Digital Camera

1 Answer

Canon Rebel XT dial only advances one direction

I can physically move the dial both forward and backward, but the camera always registers it as a backward click. When I lower the shutter speed or aperature, it will not let me increase it. It is stuck going down, and even moves down when I turn the dial to make it go up. Does that make sense ;) I had the problem before about a year ago and it went away on its own. I've tried popping the battery out, clearing all camera settings, upgrading firmware, changing lenses, trying it without a lens mounted, tried different camera modes, and nothing fixes it. Has anyone seen this issue before? Thanks.

I have not seen this on that model or any of the other similar models of Canon.

You have done everything I would recommend. Esp with you updating the firmware, I really think you have a hardware problem.

I would contact Canon. They do have Auth repair centers or you can contact them and send it in to the Canon factory, it depends on the repair. I just had lens repaired on my 40d, and I sent it in to CA, and it only took about 10 days.

Good luck, it sucks when something like that goes bad.

1. Memory card won't go all the way into slot on Canon rebel xt. Can I fix this myself? 2. Since I got the camera I have always felt the images were not as hi-res, as sharp, as they should be. How can...

This camera uses a CF (Compact Flash) card and there are two small runners on the side of this card to prevent the card from being installed backwards which will damage the pins if forced. It should slide into the slot much like closing a drawer on runners. As far as quality here is a diagram from your camera "menu" functions that shows how to set for maximum image quality. I would suggest strongly staying in the jpg format as RAW requires special programing to open.

Canon rebel xt 1. image looks blury in eye

1. The viewfinder's diopter is probably out of focus (doesn't affect Auto Focus of photos). There's a dial and a +/- symbol next to the viewfinder. Turn the dial till you can see clearly through it. Alternative reason: The glass in the viewfinder is dirty/foggy. Use camera cleaning solution (a drop) on a cotton bud to clean it.

2. Malfunction needs Canon Service Centre to take a look at.

I have a Canon Rebel XT/EOS 350D. For some reason when I try to view the AF, ISO or WB menus they are not displaying. Can you help?

You need to set your Mode Dial to one of the modes in the creative zone (i.e. one of the modes: P, Tv, Av, M or A-DEP) in order to access the AF, ISO and WB menus. Those menus are not displayed when the Mode Dial is set to one of the Basic Zone modes.
Hope this helps /Chris

Setting RAW as file format

Make sure that the mode dial is not set to one of the 'Basic Zones', i.e. Auto, Portrait, Landscape, etc. You should be able to select RAW or RAW+L in P, Tv, Av, M, or A-DEP.

Can't tell when Rebel xt is focused

So the problem is that it always looks blurry?
If so, look at the little dial that is coming out of the viewfinder. It corrects the viewfinder for people with bad eyesight, kind of like built in glasses. make sure the white marks are lined up.
