I appreciate all your help. I went to Roxio and was told to buy a later version. 7 will not work with XP, service pack 3.

Could be your antivirus is preventing it or any firewall that is install. Set your antivirus to ignore it. Just be sure no virus is actually in it.

That is a question for Roxio, the manufacturer of Easy Creator 7. Since that is not the latest version, they may agree to provide you with a download link to download that version in order to use your physical serial number from your retail disk, which may have been damaged or defective. Please note that any time lost and aggravation you encountered that led to reformatting your hard disk is outside the narrow limits (if there are any) of their liability for "fitness for use" of your software, which in most cases is never actually yours, it is merely licensed by the manufacturer temporarily as long as you agree to their terms. But if they refuse to help you, I suggest purchasing a competitor's product next time (or download a freeware or shareware alternative)!

Compaq SR1650NX HARD DRIVE MESSED UP RECOVERY DISK WON'T WORK REPLACED HARD DRIVE CAN'T GET BIOS TO RECONIZE HARD DRIVE SHOWS UP IN BOOT BUT NOT IN MAIN HP SAID TO INSTALL NEW OS HAD OLD 98SE LOADED WORKED...

Are you trying to set up a raid configuration? If not I would reformat using the 98 disk and reinstall. (You may be able to skip installing 98, try installing xp first and it should ask for the disk containing the software (win98) that qualifies for the upgrade.

I want oto reformat my computer

Lil, What do you mean by reformat? If it is the exact computer lingo then you want to erase everything from the HDD and reinstall Windows. is that what you want. If yes, then you must be prepared to lose all data unless you back it up before doing that and also reinstall all the programs that you have besides Windows, which in any case you are reinstalling. To do this you must first back up the data to a removable disk or a different partition of the HDD. Insert the Windows CD into the CD drive and reboot. Follow the instructions and after two reboots you will have a new installation of Windows. Now restore the data that you backed up. Also, reinstall all the programs that you had earlier or atleast those that you want now.

I'm facing major problem of active desktop recovery. Also I'm unable to restore my active desktop.

If all fails, then the last resort would be Reformat Your Computer. Save Everything. When you do a Reformat, all data is lost.
I found this on the web. You can click on the link to see it more in view.
http://www.ehow.com/how_5039946_reformat-windows-vista-computer.html
Step 1 ATTENTION!

Reformatting a computer will reset it to the factor image, all data must be backed up or it WILL be lost. There are several reasons to reformat a hard drive. A few reasons include but are not limited to: driver issues, virus, cleaning up, getting rid of the computer, etc.

Step 2 Recovery Disk Creator
Every new windows vista owner should know that the new computers are not supplied with recovery disks anymore. The manufacturer allows the user to create one set of disks upon the purchase of a new machine. It is important to create the disks early as driver issues and viruses may arise. In order to create recovery disks on windows vista you want to click on the start menu. Next, type in recovery in the Start Search option area. Next, click on recovery disk creation and follow the process. It will require that you have about 3 dvds or about 7 cds to create the recovery disks.
REFORMATING HARD DRIVE!

Once the recovery disks have been made reformatting windows vista is quite simple. Insert the recovery disks into the cd/dvd tray on the machine. You are now going to want to turn the computer off. When the computer has turned off, go ahead and turn it back on. A screen should pop up asking you whether you want to boot from Hard Drive or Disk. Choose the disk option. After you make it this far it is a downhill process. Next you follow the on-screen instruction make sure you reformat the machine, not recover it.

Good Luck :0)
