How do i fix my volume

Hi Ashlee, Is it the overall volume or is it an individual Application that has low volume?
The volume control in the menu bar shows the whole system volume but many apps have their own volume controls - and if they are set low then turning up the system volume will have no effect.

THERE IS NO AUDIO SOUND IN MY MACHINE. WHAT TO DO

Check the Speaker Connections and Volume Control Settings
1 Verify that the lack of sound is not due to faulty speaker connections. A simple way to test it is to substitute the speaker connection with headphones and see if you get any sound. 2 Open the volume control window by clicking your "Start" button and then "All Programs." Click "Accessories," then "Entertainment," then "Volume Control." Alternatively, just click on the speaker icon that's in your System Tray. 3 Check the volume and mute settings. If any of the mute check boxes have been checked, uncheck them. If this doesn't work, read on.
Perform a System Restore If Necessary
1 If the sound has been audible from your computer's speakers and is suddenly lost, you may need to perform a System Restore. Click on the " Start" button and then "All Programs." 2 Click on "Accessories," then "System Tools," then "System Restore." 3 Complete the System Restore Wizard. If this doesn't work, read on.
Delete and Reinstall the Original Sound Drivers
1 Deleting and reinstalling your sound driver may resolve the problem. Your sound driver may have been corrupted or may be missing. The result of this is that the restore utility menu won't be available. For Windows XP, follow these steps. 2 Click on your "Start" button. Click on "Control Panel" and then "System." Next, click on "Hardware," then "Device Manager, then "Sound, Video and Game Controllers." 3 Click on a sound device named in the Device Manager, and then press the Delete key on the keyboard. Click "OK" in the window that appears. Remove all the listed sound devices i this way EXCEPT Audio Codec and Legacy Audio Drivers. 4 Restart your computer. Reinstall the deleted drivers using the Driver and Application Recovery CDs that came with your Windows XP system.

Volume Icon has disappeared.

First, right click on the taskbar and select Properties from the right click menu.

Alternatively, you can go to the Control Panel and type the word 'taskbar' in the search box from the upper-right side. Once the search results are loaded, click on the link that says 'Customize icons on the taskbar'.

The Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window will show up on your screen. Here, go to the tab called Notification Area. In the System icons section check the Volume box and click on OK.

The Volume Mixer icon will now show up in the notification area of your taskbar

I hope that this information was helpful and thank you for contacting the experts.

A problem with my mic settings

Check CONTROL PANEL, Sound or Audio Devices. Usually, a check box to show Volume Control on System Tray or Notifcation Area. If you can launch VOLUME control from either Startmenu/Programs/Accessories or START..RUN..SNDVOL32, look for a menu item to select RECORDING DEVICES to hopefully find the MIC.

Within your program, there may also be options/settings to use the mic.

To restore defaults, try a System Restore (System tool from start menu, accessories) or as a last resort, uninstall/remove the sound or audio device from your Device Manager (risky if you don't have the driver readily available from CD or Download). After uninstall, reboot to allow Plug and Play to put the hardware back in---usually this can get your defaults restored.

The mute wont turn on,on the dell inspiron

Have you tried going into the speaker settings? We'll assume with a new PC you have Vista installed, click the speaker icon on the right side of the tray, and selecting "Mixer" will enable access to volume control for the output devices and for applications.

If no speaker icon is visible To check the volume controls in Windows Vista, click Start and then click Control Panel. Choose Hardware And Sound and then click Adjust System Volume under the Sound section. The Volume Mixer window will open, and you should see volume sliders for Device and Applications. Click and drag the sliders to view the volume level percentages. If the speaker icons show a circle with a red slash, click the icon so the speakers are no longer muted.

Furthermore, you’ll want to double-check all of your master volume and mute settings.
