Re: ear splitting noise

Do you have an envelope feeder optional assembly? Is the printer doing the noise only when you print envelopes? Did you changed the toner cartridge recently?

Screechy printer

Hi, I work on Laser printers alot and often find that squeaking is caused by the fuser bearings going bad. Usually replacing the fuser is not a difficult fix, but can be a little pricey depending on the model. One thing to try before replacing the fuser would be to try replacing the toner/drum and making sure that is not the source of the noise. Hope that helps.

My printer has started making a knocking sound

Haha, shouldn't be your wife this time :P It sounds like one of two things.
1. One of the rollers that pulls through the paper has come a little bit loose and therefore is starting to hit other things, causing said noise. This is why you only hear it when it when the printer is active
2. One of the rollers or gears has become stiff, and isn't spinning as should be. This could stop all printing all together, so it's unlikely to be this, but without looking at it myself, I couldn't say, sorry.

I'd advise looking at the rollers within the printer, to make sure they're not jammed, loose or stuck full of toner. Make sure you have the printer off for a while too, you don't wanna burn your hands off :)

Lemme know how it goes

Printing #10 envelopes with 5100cn, using MPF. Set paper size to #10 envelope, output same, MPF set for envelopes. Printer display says load #10 envelopes, which are loaded. What do I do now?

You can download the manual for your printer here. You merely need to go to the word processor or program you're printing from and load the addresses and send them to the printer. Try just one as a test to make sure your margins and spacing are set up correctly.
For Dell specs on print media guidelines for your machine, see here. For a blurb about en velope loading, see here. All options here.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

HP Color Laserjet 2840 now makes ear-splitting whine every time

Did the noise start right after you replaced a toner? If so it must be a bad toner which is causing the gears to grind. If this noise happened out of the blue then it might be a bad fuser drive gear which is the gears that connect the fuser to the machine.

Printing noises - no ink transferring

Sounds like you may need to replace the developer drive assembly. This is the motor and gear assy that drive the color developers. it is located on the right side middle, 3 screws hold it in place. be careful when replacing to not over tightened screws.

Solution --> Phaser 4400 Printer: Printing envelopes

Printing EnvelopesEnvelopes can be printed from the optional envelope feeder, the Multi-Purpose Tray, or Tray 1, 2, or 3.
Guidelines for envelope printing
  • Use only paper envelopes.
  • Do not print on the back of the envelope.
  • Never use envelopes with windows, metal clasps, or exposed gummed surfaces.
  • Keep unused envelopes in their packaging to avoid the effects of moisture and dryness, which can affect print quality and cause wrinkling.
  • Envelopes may wrinkle depending on weight and stiffness of the envelope.

Many applications include a tool for creating an envelope document. For example, Microsoft Word includes an Envelopes and Labels feature in the Tools menu. Be sure to:
  • Select faceup.
  • Clear Clockwise Rotation.
  • Select the feed method with the image centered and the stamp on the envelope to the upper left.

caution_image88x30.gif Never use envelopes with windows, metal clasps, or exposed gummed surfaces; they can damage the printer. Damage caused by using unsupported envelopes might not be covered by your printer's warranty.
note_image33x30.gif Note: The heat from the printing process can melt certain types of envelope glue. If the envelope flap sticks shut after printing the test print, tuck the flaps inside the envelopes when printing the remaining envelopes. Printing envelopes from the envelope feeder
  1. Insert the envelopes into the envelope feeder. For more information, refer to the Trays section of the Trays and Paper Guide on the Interactive Documentation CD-ROM.
    • Place the side to be printed faceup.
    • The top of the envelopes should be toward the left of the printer.

Dell 5100cn Laser Printer Multipurpose Feed Problem

I had the same problem, my solution was:

1) Go into the Print dialog window, select your 5100cn printer and click the "Properties" button next to it.
2) Select the second tab, labeled "Paper Tray".
3) Select "MPF" from the "Paper Source" drop-down list.
4) Click the "MPF Settings" button and select "Envelope".

That should allow your program to print to MPF for envelopes. This needs to be done in your software, setting it on the printer's control panel didn't work for me.
