Question about Frigidaire ATF6000ES Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Clothes rough & scratchy as if dried outside in freezing temps

I have a Frigidaire Front Load Washer Model # ATF6000ESI (1?) that is probably 3+ years old. Irregardless of the type or amount of laundry detergent and/or fabric softener we use as well as the fact that we have a water softener unit, my clothes and towels NEVER come out soft! My daughter has the same set only 1 year older than mine, and she never has this problem. I am tired of the repairmen telling me the machine is fine so I must be doing something wrong. Really?? I'm 53-years-old...I've done laundry before.

Was there a recall or something that I missed?

Thanks for your help!

Hi clarkco and thank you for your answer. I will call the softener company again to double check but the water softener unit was just installed 3 weeks ago when I moved into this house. My washer has had this problem almost the entire time that I've had the washer, with the exception of maybe the 1st year. I recently moved from a small town where "the" Sears repairman's knowledge was limited as I believe the "grinding" noise is not normal either. As I mentioned, my daughter has no problem with her quiet machine and her clothes come out soft even though she doesn't own a water softener.

I did find out today, though, that in her machine the fabric softener tray does not empty immediately when it is filled (in the correct side) as the liquid detergent does when it is filled. I assumed my machine was missing a part inside the tray, but they look identical. Go figure.

Clarkco, again thank you. I didn't know about moving blocks before moving so assume they were never used? The grinding noise began years before I moved, if that's what you mean..

Yes, my main issue is the softener dispensing with the detergent. The water softener works great.

Having a water softening unit and keeping it working properly are two different things....when was the last time the system was regenerated? Has the hardness of the water been tested lately? Even though you have a softener, it dose sound like a hard water problem....First step would be to get the water tested not only for harness but also for mineral content. Test the water before and after regenerating the unit. Some home improvement centers have a home water test kit available that would be quicker and cheaper but not as reliable as having a lab do it. The home test kits may point you in the right direction before spending for a lab to test. Hope this helps. Let me know what you find.

please tell me you reinstalled the moving blocks in the machine prior to moving it......as for the softener dispenser, that would be a problem if it empties with the detergent. let me know what you find

Why does my washer do every thing but spin dry could a pressure swicth be bad on door?

Good Afternoon Dale,

I see that you are having trouble with your Frigidaire Affinity washer, model# ATF7000ES, not spinning your clothes dry. First, if the drum is not spinning at all, I suggest resetting your appliance by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker for 2-3 minutes. Once power is restored run a spin only cycle. If it starts spinning and the clothes are still coming out damp, try one of the following:

1)Try changing the spin speed to a higher speed.
2)Make sure that you have not overloaded your washer.
3)Make sure that the wash load is not too small. If you are only washing a couple of items, try adding 1 or 2 similar items to balance the load.
4)Try rearranging the load to allow proper spinning.
5)Check the drain hose for any kinks. If it is kinked, straighten it.
If you are still having trouble with your washer spin drying, I suggest contacting your local authorized technician. Hope this helps.

    -Best Regards-
    WP

I have a kenmore HE2 dryer and matching washer. It is 3 years old. It works and eventually clothes do dry. It does heat up. But it doesn't heat up as hot as it used to and it takes twice as long to dry...

Make sure you check your exhaust line and where the air blows to the outside. If your exhaust vent or hose is bent or restricted it will take a very long time to dry the clothes. Sometimes the vent flap on the outside exhaust is stuck shut. Clear dryer exhaust venting is critical for proper operation. Several companies offer a vent cleaning service where they completely clean out the exhaust lines.

Dryer not drying

look at the vent outside and see if it closing or even has a cover this allows cold air inside the dryer and cause it to take longer to dry

Washer water level low, clothes come out dry !!

This is the water saver feature and the only solution may be to put it on the maximum wash cycle to get clothes really clean.
These washers normally get the clothes almost dry.

Have you tried using detergent HE (High Efficientcy) for front loaders? I had this problem and changed over to HE Detergent (Tide) and it solved my problem. Good Luck

Doesn't spin the clothes dry on the final spin but spins at high revolutions without a load of clothes

I have read that if the pump is not draining the tub completely, there is an interlock that prevents the high speed spin from engagin. I have had debris caught in my pump several times (kids!!) with similar issues. There is a trap on the line leading from the tub to the pump which is "supposed" to capture debris, but it doesn't work all that well. Check your pump.....
