IPod Touch 8gb won't turn on

My 8 gig iPod Touch is about a year and one month old and will not turn on. It was not dropped or physically damaged in anyway... one day it worked, the next it did not. It does not show up when i plug it in my computer, and i have tried leaving it charging for more than 24 hours but absolutely nothing happens. I tried the suggested "reset" on the apple website but also, nothing. HELP.

Have you tried putting it into DFU mode? From here you can restore your ipod.

Here is a great step by step guide on how to do it.

Charge the battery

If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Ipod touch (2nd Gen) with water damage

The touch screen is not physically attached to the screen, if water was anywhere near the bottom of the ipod it may have triggered the water damage unit inside the bottom. Water also may have leaked into the unit frying the circuits. You'll have to visit an Apple store or Apple.com/support for repair.

My 8 gig touch got submerged in water while plugged into the charger, I have dried the unit and it's functioning properly except for the back light. I have done the restore but no luck , is this something...

Well....even if the ipod is under warranty, AppleCare people won't be able to fix it for free as the physical damages are not covered under warranty. If you look inside the phone jack of your ipod, it's colour should be orange or yellow indicating liquid damage.
So, you can set up a repair for your ipod by calling AppleCare and you'll get a replacement but you have to pay the repair fee and that would be around $119 + taxes.
I hope this answers your question

Have you tried restoring the iPod yet?
Use the Five Rs to restore the iPod. You will lose the data that is currently on it if you restore but you can always re-sync the data to the iPod.
