No sound on sony vaio desktop pcv rs 420

Hi Plz help I need a multi media audio driver for my vaio desktop. After having it "gone over" for a clean up by computer repair we have no sound. I have checked the system and there isn't any multi media installed.

windows xp is my O/S Thanks for the quick response. And yes I suppose they should have taken care of it But it's been over six months ago and when we called back they said to use the start up cd. But at that time I had tons of things packed for a move. Now I'm trying to correct the problem I have let set. Thanks again

Good morning, I have to be on the right track with your help, but still no go. I went to sony and got to everything right up till download and "IT" said this down load was not meant for my model #. I'm not sure what the hang up is. It was the first choice in downloads available for my model#. Any other ideas to get past this. Thanks Again

Yes, a restore of your O/S will corrupt the drivers. You need to reinstall the drivers. Actually, the repair shop needs to do this. This is part of their repair of your computer. Any tech with half a brain, knows to download all drivers, before they do a System Restore, or do a Repair from a Full Installation disk, or a Restoration disk.

I need to know what Operating System you're using. I can't assume at this point. (WinXP and Vista are examples of an O/S. Not trying to insult your intelligence)

This is eSupport.Sony.com, and the page for the Sony Vaio PCV-RS420,
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=PCVRS420
Click on the + sign next to -> Audio (Sound) 1 files

You will now see ->
Original-ADI SoundMAX Audio Device Driver, Version 5.12.1.3622 for the Microsoft Windows Operating System <- in blue.
There is a globe with a green arrow to the right of this. Click on this globe/arrow icon.

You will be taken to another window. There is a globe/arrow icon, once more. Click on it.
Now follow the instructions.
Should a Microsoft 'Squawk Box' pop-up, ignore it. "Warning. This software does not have a digital certificate ya-da, ya-da"

It's from Sony, and I assure you it's safe.
Click on Run, and in the next small window, click on Run again. If you have problems, I suggest you come back and post an additional comment. We'll get it straightened out.

I suggest the Windows update may not be a good thing. Windows has thousands of generic drivers.
The key word here is "Generic"
They are not THE drivers made by Sony for THIS laptop. I suggest using THE drivers.

Good morning to your too. Time here is 5:27am. Hmmmm, I wonder if it somehow registered trying to match to my computer, as I went pretty 'deep', and almost downloaded it. Wouldn't work to well on my Gateway desktop!
    lol!

Let's try two more things. First, I would like you to go to the main page for Sony eSupport.
    http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/select-...

Under the Option 1 heading is -> Auto Detect, (Vaio PCs Only)
I would like you to click on that, and see if there is an option for Software & Downloads, or perhaps an option to update drivers.

Should this somehow not work, then perhaps go to DriverMax, and try their automatic option for updating your drivers.

Run Window Update. If there are missing drivers, Windows Update will scan your machine and identify what drivers you're missing and retrieve the drivers for you.

Try to install the updated sound/audio driver. If nothing happens, it means that you have a bad headset jack.

You can resolve this issue by downloading the vinyl_v700b.zip file and running the setup. This program will install the correct codecs and drivers for the onboard sound. Worked for me!!! Sony support / sony website was of NO help at all!

Sony Vaio sound...

Adam,

The sony VAIO Pcv-j200 only runs with Windows 2000, windows Me and windows xp. The current operating system Vista on your computer right now will work but some of the features of it may not. The link below shows all the drivers for your unit for diffent operating systems (not vista). What you can try to do is to download the audio driver for windows xp
