The water flows through the filter based upon the amount of debris already caught by the filter. Increasing the flow of water into the filter would not solve the problem. If you do not want to buy a new filter you can remove the present fiter and either operate without it oryou could put a larger filter in the supply line outside of the refrigerator.

Water dispenser running slowly

Hello Cynthia;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You have a water pressure problem. You need at least 60 PSI water pressure to open the solenoid valves. I suspect you are getting small ice cubes.

If you have well water you are not going to get the pressure for fully dispenser flow.

I have experienced bad water filters. One time our techs received a large shipment of bad water filters. Remove the water filter and test the water dispenser.

With low water pressure you may not want to use a water filter

New Jenn-air refrigerator, Model #JFC2087HRS, water filters do not work...

The new Jenn-air refrigerator, model #JFC2087HRS, water filters (UKF8001) do not work correctly. Water flow is slow. I have called the manufacturer but cannot get any help from them. They insist they work fine. I have tried several of the new ones. The problem seems to be that the small ramps on the new water filters are not tall enough to push the small plungers sufficiently into the water dispenser. I have added a small piece of plastic (glued) to the ramps on the water filter in order for them to work better, but not as good as old ones worked (UKF8001AXX). The next best thing is to buy the old filters if you can find them.

Hello there, when new filters are fitted usually they are expected to spurt for a little bit before they normalize and begin to flow properly. Dispense water continuously for 10 minutes. This usually arises when the flow of water through the unit not being allowed through properly and usually takes the new filter a couple of minutes to get accustomed to the water flow and get water circulating through all its components hence the spurts. Alternatively you can check to ensure that the water supply is turned on full and the filter is properly fitted. If all of these are in place then the dispense mechanism might be faulty.

Bought a new Maytag side by side. Will not put out water. Tried the 5 sec on and 5sec off to flush the air out, still didn't work. What next?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
First off you need to make sure the freezer door is CLOSED and water filter is properly installed in the filter housing. Without a model number I can not tell you the exact location of the filter. There is a water lock out function of the water filter housing that will prevent proper water flow until the filter is installed correctly or removed completely. Also... there is a water tank / reservoir that has to be filled completely with water before you will see any water at the spigot. Please pass your model number so I can better assist you or call the Maytag Sercive Center so they can walk you through the initial set up procedure of your refrigerator. (They will also need your model number) Go to http://www.maytag.com and register your appliance before making the call.

Before making the call check out this information about troubleshooting:

- After connecting the refrigerator to water source or replacing the water filter, flush the water system. Use a sturdy container to depress and hold the water dispenser lever for 5 seconds, then release it for 5 seconds. Repeat until water begins to flow. Once water begins to flow, continue to press and release the dispenser bar (5 seconds on, 5 seconds off) until a total of 3 gal. (12 L) has been dispensed. This will flush air from the filter and water dispensing system, and prepare the water filter for use. Additional flushing may be required in some households. As air is cleared from the system water may spurt out of the dispenser.
- Make sure the dispenser is not locked. Some models have a lock feature that deactivates the dispenser levers and control buttons. The lock button is on the dispenser front cover. This feature controls unintentional dispensing during cleaning. Press the Unlock or Locked button to reactivate the dispenser levers and allow dispenser function. You may need to hold the button for 2 to 3 seconds.
- If there has been a recent power outage or the power supply has been off for more than one hour, the power outage indicator (on some models) will disable the dispenser function. The dispenser display will read "PF" to indicate power failure. To use the dispenser, press and hold the "Reset" button for 3 seconds until you hear the beeps.

-A clogged or incorrectly installed water filter will reduce the water flow to the water dispenser. Check for a problem with the filter by removing the filter and operating the dispenser. If water begins to flow, then the filter is either clogged or incorrectly installed. A clogged filter will need to be replaced.

If the filter is clogged and you are not able to immediately replace it, leave the filter out so the water system is in bypass mode. With the filter removed, the water system will continue to operate, bypassing the filter, and the clogged filter will not cause slow water dispensing. However, in order to have filtered water, you will need to install a new filter.
All Genuine Maytag Water Filters retain beneficial fluoride and are NSF Certified for drastically reducing chlorine taste and odor, particulates, lead, mercury and cysts.

To ensure glass after glass of clean, refreshing ice and water, change your filter yearly or whenever the system light indicates.

The information above should get your water working. If not please listen for a solenoid buzz as you actuate the water in door function. No buzz either the dispenser is locked off or.... you have a valid warranty claim.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Slow water flow from the water dispenser

If it was fast at one point there are a couple of things that come to mind. Make sure your water line is not kinked at any point behind the frig. Also, when was the last time you changed your filter? Dirty water filters can cause low water pressure. Let me know if I can help further, good luck! :D

Our Maytag icemaker stopped making ice suddenly after we changed the filter. It dispenses water only.

Does the water have a good flow ? Did you try putting the old filter back in ? Never change the filter just because a little red light comes on . Only replace when the ice cubes get small or the water dispensor flow gets slow . I have found new filters that were bad . Distributors make a lot of money for filters just because of that little red lite . Not just maytag , but all other brands also . Try pouring about 1/2 cup of water into icemaker . If it dumps the cubes but doesn't fill , replace the water valve . If it doesn't dump , and holds the cubes for a long period of time , replace the icemaker . Also , you may need to clean the coils of dust , lint , etc....

Conquest water filter in my whirpool side by side

yes it is. as long as there is still water coming out from the dispenser.

the red light only indicates that it is about time to replace the filter. could be 6 months old. this is controlled by time, so check your water pressure at the dispenser, if it is still strong, then you could still use it .

depending on your condition, some filters would be clogged already even if the light is still green and there is no more water coming out of your dispenser.

normal time to replace the filter is six months.

GE Refigerator filter problem

First thing to try is to cut open one of the old filters (ideally straight down the middle)and see if you can tell what is blocking it. Wear gloves and keep away from the stuff inside in case there is a chemical component - it should say on the packet of the filter if this is the case. You could also install another, coarser and cheaper filter in the water hose just outside the fridge - you usually can get a housing with a hose fitting on each end and a filter inside at most hardware stores. If you turn off the water pressure, cut the hose to the washer half way from the wall, then you can install the new filter with a couple of hose-clamps(Jubilee-clips). These sort of primary filters will remove any sandy or silty material in the water (you might not notice it usually from the tap) and also there is the possibility of algae/weed growth that is clogging the filter. It also might be worth calling your local water supply authority/utility and discussing the problem with them - they may want to come and check, or ask you to send a sample in for analysis. Some of what they can do, you can achieve yourself by putting a closed container of the water somewhere where it can get no vibration and waiting a week or so to see how much solids settle out. A tall thin container works best, as long as you can keep it dead still. Just possibly the filters are a defective batch, and it is coincidence that you got more than one - perhaps you bought them from the same small store? Also possible is that there is something in the pipe near the filter that is disturbed when you change one for a few days, then settles back into place blocking the hose - check there is not a small piece of mesh inside the water inlet hose connection at the back of the fridge - sometimes there is and these strainers can get blocked by something that behaves erratically. Hope this helps - please post again if not :)
