The disc is probably stuck out of the tray and stopping it from opening. unplug, and you should be able to pry open the front case and pull the tray out.

I have an insignia ns brdvd player and it will not open, by remote or by pressing the button. the display shows open and close but no response.

The reviews on this player are that it's a piece of **** and you got ripped off buying it. See if there's a small pinhole near the drawer you can push a straightened paper clip into and manually force the drawer open. Some have it and some don't. Good Luck.

Brand new out of box, the open/close function doesn't work?

Does it try to open/close?

Have you tried both the chassis button and the remote button?

If the tray tries to eject but is stuck, you can try to assist it and see why it is stuck. If it just doesn't do anything when you hit the eject key, you should return the unit to Best Buy for a different unit.

Hope this helps!
