Question about Refrigerators

I replaced the rco two months ago on my Amana fridge, but alas the the fix did not last. Does one continue down this road replacing the rco, which is not really a fix or is there something longer term like installing a new compressor? Thanks: Gil

Thanks for the reply, but.  The fridge is a ARB1917 CSL which is only a few years old. I replaced the relay when it first produced only a hum and no cold air. Then I added the rco 410, which lasted about two months. Now what are the options?

    Thanks: Gil

If the rco keeps blowing then there must be some other reason, check that the compressor is not completely dead. Compressor is under warranty for at least three years after purchase.

The older style compressor relays work differently than the newer style compressor relays. The RCO 3-1 relay kits work great on older refrigerators but can/will/could cause problems on the newer style ones.

Recently got 2nd hand Amana side by side model XRSS687BB. Compressor stops when closing fridge door. Freezer working as long as fridge door remains open. Fridge damper closed and won't open though it

I have went through something like this before, the serviceman told me it was in fact a compressor issue. Do you hear some kind of buzzing noise? Is it extremely hot? Then it's a compressor issue. They are pretty expensive to have replaced, would recommend to purchase a different brand. I had the same problems as Frigidaire. I had the compressor replaced twice during a time period of 2 years. It went out a third time and it was out of warranty and they told me that the compressor didn't receive any kind of warranty gain for itself and the company shortened the warranty of the compressor because of the issues they had with them. Since they were aftermarket ones, didn't apply to the original warranty. If you continue to have issues with this brand, please research the brand integrity online before you make another bad investment. I paid more for the new brand but it lasted longer than 9 months. The next fridge that I bought was older and used but lasted 5 years, so I stuck to that brand and it paid dividends stop far.

To fix up a frosted up vents, I had a control board replaced for $180. Then 6 months later, the bottom freezer frost up AGAIN. rather than dumping more money to fix it, I was about to buy a new fridge, but had a crazy idea: I disconnected the water to the freezer, bought plastic trays for ice cubes for $3 at walmart. Fridge has worked like a charm for 6 months. no signs of frost. Saved $1000's.

We bought an Amana fridge 7 years ago. Last month we started hearing a weird sound which bacame more persistant and more often.I Call a technician in he replaced the relay and the starter but he suspected...

Dante, Please do not spend any more money on that Amana. It is clear once the Technician said that the compressor is near its life's end that he knows what he is talking about. Try to spend money that you have now for something that is nice without electronics like digital read out or electronic defrost control. They last longer without all the problems most people run into when they have all those beautiful gadget's. Search Google most dependable refrigerators without electronics. Do not go by Consumer reports because honestly I believe they are not honest. Or tell me what you would like and I will do my best to find you something that will last beyond the warranty, please if you have questions please ask. Fridge too warm

I had a similar problem several months ago.

1) Top freezer compartment is getting TOO cold. The ice gets so thick, it blocks the channels of cool air from the freezer down to the fridge compartment (hence fridge too warm)
SOLUTION: Turn fridge/freezer off to fully defrost, then turn back on.
NB: This might only be a temporary fix, and you will find in a few months time the same thing happens?
2) In my case, I required a replacement of the "controller" board which fixed the defrosting problem of my freezer compartment.
Good luck.
