Computer won't start up and has a constant tone.

When I turn on the computer (ACER Aspire AST690 UP925A) the fans come on and the DVD drive light blinks for about 1/2 second. Then everything goes off for about a second. Then the fans & drive light come back on for a second, then a constant tone starts. The fans keep running, but the drive light stops blinking. Nothing else happens. Nothing shows on the monitor. I've tried uplugging the hard drive power and data connections, but it doesn't change anything, so I'm thinking it's not the hard drive. I've cleaned the fans and vacumed out all the dust I could get. I can't quite tell where the sound is coming from though. Any suggestions?

Thanks, the post was helpful, but unfortunatly it looks like I'll have to take it in to a repair shop.

I have the same problem with my Acer Aspire AST690. It won't startup and there is a constant tone--a very loud high pitched noise. Did you ever get yours fixed?

If the noise is constant then it means the problem is either:

1: a Power supply issue
2: a motherboard issue
3: a keyboard problem

the latter of the three being the easiest to fix, try booting with your keyboard unplugged or even better if you have another keyboard try using it to see if that corrects the problem.

If the above does not work then you have a problem with 1 or 2, and in order to find out for certain you will need to test it, you can goto your local computer diagnostic store to see if they can check which it is.

and hope its not a problem with the motherboard.

Hope this helps, and Good Luck

Fan just work for seconds

Replace the fan or your computer will run hot and keep turning off.

Or are you saying this is what happens when you power on the computer? if so: When you press the power button do you hear fansrunning, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lightsconstantly blinking, hear the DvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer ofthe DvD/CD turn on for a second or two? If so the laptop is trying toboot or may have booted, but the screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous.

Hi,
You need to remove The Side-Panel. ( Power Lead out )
locate A small round Button Cell Battery.

carefully prise the Battery Out For Between 10-15 Seconds, And Replace it. replace the power cable. switch on the computer, the bios has now been reset to it,s factory default settings.

ACER Aspire- beeping sound - 6seconds when I power machine on

The beeps are telling you there is a hardware failure (POST). The number and length of beeps will give a better indication as to what has failed. Write back with that info and someone on this web site will interpret this for you.

Acer Aspire AST690-UP925A

If you look at the back of you computer tower you should see 4 screws, one at each corner. Unscrew those one side at a time and that should allow you to examine the inside of your computer. Be careful when poking around because static electricity may short something out.
