Dell Inspiron B130 won't wake up after closing lid

If I close the lid on my Dell Inspiron B130 laptop before shutting it down, it goes into sleep mode, but won't wake up again when reopened. I have to reboot the laptop every time. Is there a fix for this or can it be overridden?

Thanks so much for the replies:

Beltian: Neither the space bar nor the power button work to wake up the laptop.

Nitin_Master: The only choice for "when I close the lid to my laptop" is "do nothing" ... which is already checked. Even changing the power scheme to "always on" doesn't work. When I close the lid, the screen goes to black and will not "wake up" again unless I reboot.

I actually just realized that the laptop isn't going into sleep mode when closed ... it happens just as I open it back up. Then it goes black (yet doesn't shut completely down) and I have to reboot to wake it up.

Beltian, I'm sorry I wasn't clear. It isn't an issue with wanting or trying to shut down. I DON'T want this to happen when I close the lid on the laptop, and I'm trying to figure out how to prevent it.

In looking again, I realized that the problem actually happens after closing the lid and then starting to open it again. Just as I lift it, it goes into sleep mode and will not wake up without rebooting.

Thanks, Beltian. I appreciate your quick replies tonight.

Does this only happen before you shut the laptop down?

Have you tried pressing the Space Bar or the power button to see if that wakes the "beast" ?

Well if it only happens when you are trying to shut down your laptop then try shutting it down and leaving the screen open to see if it shuts down completely.

I have had the same problem with my inspiron 1420. Nothing wakes the computer back up. Spacebar, power button, nothing! I have resorted to putting mine into hibernation and then it will wake up if I shut the lid and then press the power button once. But if I just shut it randomly it won't "wake" back up.

Where is the sleep button on dell inspiron 1545 laptop

Usually when you close the lid on your laptop, it will go to sleep mode. The second light is orange and blinks when it is in sleep mode.

Laptop will not shut of after closing the lid

In Windows XP, Open Control Panel, Power Options, set to High Performance, set Sleep and Hibernate to no/never, set what to do when lid is closed. Use this procedure: It's a good idea to Shut down at Start Menu and unplug when not in use to prevent damage due to power surges, and IF the battery malfunctions, prevent a fire hazzard.

Why do may Dell inspiron 6000 allways lock when i close the computer. And when i open again i have to restart the coumputer. And the locker light signal with the 9numbe comes on .

Go to the control panel > power Options......Unselect Hibernation, and change the setting for what the laptop does when the lid closes. By default, when you close the lid, the computer will go into sleep mode. This is one of the worse things Windows ever put into practice. Nothing but torment and trouble follows sleep mode. Change the setting to "do nothing" and make sure everything else does not say sleep or hibernate.

Dell Inspiron 1300 - When I re-open the lid,Screen stays Black !

Your laptop either goes to hibernate or sleep mode when you close the lid. Then, when you open the lid up, the screen is still off because your pc already hanged/froze and could not wake up at all (usual problem in vista). Off course, hard shutdown would fix it. But actual fix is under power options on your control panel. Check your current scheme and edit it. There are options there that you can select to "do nothing when closing the lid"

Hope this helps
