I have a thompson ths220 recorder and am unable to record programmes. I go in to epg menu and book a programme but the usb file is not compatible

It is possible that the USB drive is not formatted to the required specification (FAT/FAT32).

Please visit the following link and update to the latest firmware - http://www.thomsonstb.net/en/products/satellite-receivers/ths220

You'll also find a Manual there.

As per the manufacturer -

It is recommended to use USB 2.0 storage devices. If your device is not compatible to USB 2.0 specifications, multimedia functions of the receiver might not work properly.
THOMSON cannot guarantee compatibility with all types of USB storage devices.
It is advised not to store important information on USB storage devices used with the receiver. Always make backups of data on your USB storage device before using it with this receiver. THOMSON will not take responsibility for any loss of information or circumstances caused by loss of information.
Please ensure that either the USB device is already formatted to FAT/FAT32, or format the USB device via your receiver.

How to back up your computer, how to back up pc

Backing up your computer is recommended if the data you keep on your computer is to important to lose. I will go over some tips and tricks on backing up your PC data.

Recommended Storage Devices
I recommend you use USB mass storage devices for backing up and retaining data. A good example of a mass storage device commonly used for data backups is external USB hard drives. I personally like Western Digital USB hard drives but there are many out there to choose from. You can take a look at some examples by visiting www.newegg.com. You can get 1TB drives very cheap and the prices continue to drop.

You can use other types of storage like USB flash drives, DVDs and even other computers. USB flash drives and external hard drives are cheap, easy to use and small, making them excellent storage devices.

It is recommended that you store data off of the computer who's data you are backing up. Why? If the computer is damaged, this can potentially ruin your backup and you lose the data. You want to move the data off the computer to reduce the number of failure points. For data that is even more critical to you, you can create additional backup copies so if one backup storage device fails, you have a copy of this. This process is called mirroring.

Backup Software
There are different ways to actually back up the data. You can do this manually or use software. I recommend using software to simplify the process. There are also numerous backup software utilities out there, some free and some costly. A popular free backup tool for average computer users is EASEUS Todo Backup and click here for the user guide. This tool is very easy to use.

An example of backing up data manually would be to click and drag the data like videos or images to a storage device. If you have a lot of data, this can be time consuming.

Backup Process
The backup process is simple and straightforward when using a USB storage device and back up software.

-Download and install your backup software tool.
-Plug in your storage device.
-Make sure your computer recognizes your storage device. Most devices are plug and play so once you plug it in, it should install device drivers and be ready to use.
-Run EASEUS Todo Backup software and click Backup to start the process or reference user guide for software you are using.
-Once your backup is done, you can store the storage device in a safe place.

What is the best backup method for me?
There are different types of backup methods and each have different pro's and con's so I advise to read up on backup methods and choose the best one that fits your needs.
You can click here to read about Differential vs Incremental backups. Either one will ultimately accomplish a backup which is what our end goal is.

General Tips
-After your initial backup I recommend you schedule backups to continuously keep your data up to date.
-Use USB storage devices like external hard drives and flash drives. They are cheap and small in size, big in storage space(GBs).
-Use backup software to simplify the backup process.

There is something wrong with my microsft account its not letting me log in and the code is 8015d003

You see the following error message when you try to sign in to Xbox Live:
Sorry, something's wrong with your Microsoft account. Go to https://account.live.com for help.
Status code 8015D003
This may mean that there's a problem with your Xbox profile.

Solutions

To resolve this issue, try the following solutions.
Solution 1: Verify your Microsoft account security information
  1. Go to Microsoft account. If you forgot your password or it doesn't work, reset your password.)
  2. Click Edit security info.
  3. Verify your security information. For example, verify the Phone number, Alternate email address, and Security question information.
  4. Sign out of your Microsoft account, and then sign in again.
  5. Try to sign in to Xbox Live again.
Solution 2: Clear the system cache
  1. Press the Guide button on your controller.
  2. Go to settings and select System Settings.
  3. Select Storage or Memory.
  4. Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller. (It doesn't matter which storage device you select; the cache will be cleared for all storage devices.)
  5. Select Clear System Cache.
Note Repeat this step three times.
  6. When you are prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes.
  7. Repeat steps 4-6 three times to fully clear the cache.
Solution 3: Move and then redownload your Xbox Live profile
Note If you want to use a USB flash drive or a USB hard drive to complete these steps, you must format the USB flash drive or USB hard drive for Xbox storage. (See USB flash drive support for Xbox 360.)
  1. Move your profile to a USB flash drive or USB hard drive. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Plug the USB drive into your console.
    2. From the Dashboard, go to settings and select Storage.
    3. Select All Devices.
    4. Select Profiles, and then select your gamer profile.
    5. Select Move.
    6. Select the Memory Unit that you want to move your profile to.
Note A Memory Unit can be a USB flash drive, a USB hard drive, or the Xbox 360 Hard Drive. Be sure that you move the profile to a USB flash drive or a USB hard drive.
    7. Remove the Memory Unit from your console.
  2. Redownload your profile. For details, see Download, move, or delete your Xbox Live profile.

If you already have the Spring 2010 Dash Update for the Xbox 360 console this can be configured( go to Setting up your Xbox 360 with your USB Flash Drive).

To install the update through Xbox LIVE
1. On your Xbox 360 console, sign in to Xbox LIVE.
2. Select Yes, updated now when prompted.
3. When you see the new Dashboard, you're done.

Setting up your Xbox 360 with your USB Flash Drive: 1. Plug the USB flash drive to the Xbox 360 console.
2. On your console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.

Hi, i put in my sandisk usb, computer sees it but wont let me store anything on it??

Your SanDisk Cruzer appears on your computer as two drives
  1. A CD-ROM ( with the icon of a Cd-Rom) that contains the U3Smart Operating system, but does not have any space for storage.
  2. A mass storage device.
The two devices are labeled sequentially if CD-ROM is E, the mass-storage drive is F, but that is not guaranteed.

You should drop files on the mass-storage device, not the CD-ROM.

What is a portable USB (2.0) hard drive ??? Is it just a big USB ? Please tell me everything about USB (2.0) hard drive.

First of all, USB is an interface, that can be used for various computer peripherals, like a mouse, keyboard, printer, storage devices etc. Additionally, the USB interface is able to deliver some power (5V 500mA), which is quite enough for many devices. USB 2.0 is the newer, faster version of the original USB 1.1 specification.
Now for USB storage. Basically there are two types on the market. First are Flash (solid-state devices), usually in form of a "dongle" (called pendrive, stick). They store information in semiconductor memory. Second are hard disks, just like the ones installed in desktop and laptop computers - they store information on magnetic media.
Hard disks in a small enclosure, equipped with special interface, that enables them to be connected via the USB interface, are "portable USB hard drives". Many of them can be powered from the USB socket alone, some need an additional power supply.
With today's technology, hard disks can have 10-20 times larger capacity than flash devices, so they are still indispensable when you want to store a lot of big files (like pictures, movies etc), or back up the contents of your computer's hard drive as a safety copy.
