Hp pavilion motherboard problem

I have a pavilion dv5000 amd 64mb video laptop 1gb ram.
when i start up and go into setup there are lines in the screen. suspected bad cable but hooked up external monitor and had the same lines. also when going into safe mode the wording is all misspelled. is it possible a virus has moved into the bios or maybe a bad motherboard?

it sounds like bad video ram. If you have two memory dimms, take one out and reboot. If it does the same , try the other dimm. if both do the same, then it is a bad system bd.

The dv6000 series was commonly affected by the video card heating up and reseating itself. This was usually a soldering issue. You have a few options, You can either replace the motherboard, or have the motherboard reflowed. Unfortunately the video card itself is not detachable or individually replaceable.

I personally would recommend the second option as purchasing another dv6000 board will likely end you up in the same situation a year or 2 later.

This repair tech only does amd processor models, Not intel.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, I don't have the original disk ,that's why I need the video controller to install to my hp pavilion dv5000 laptop .with my regards

I assume from your post you mean you need the drivers for your Video Controller. You can download them for free from the HP website, look under device driver Updates. If you have the AMD chip them that is probably and ATI controller. You can download the Controller drivers and Monitoring software from ATI. THe web addresses are :

I have hp pavilion dv 2000.whenever i turn my lap on,the screen divides into 6 parts.i have replaced motherboard,bt still my laptop is facing the same problem..:( plzz tell wat sholu i do..

plug it into an external monitor to see if the problem duplicates, if so, the replace the screen.. if not, look at the motherboard again. Some of the DV2000 were AMD based, and they were nortorious for running really hot and could have "cooked" some components.

I need 500 mg ram and i only have 382, how do I upgrade

Your laptop uses the 200-pin DDR1 PC2700 333mhz memory. I think the maximum memory per slot is 1GB, which means the maximum memory will be 2GB (2 x 1GB). The "shared" video will use either a maximum of 64MB, or, I'm not sure on the maximum video memory if you have the ATI RS480M video.

HP Pavilion dv2000

This model laptop will not allow you to add a video card to it. The video card and all of its components are part of the Laptop motherboard already.

You can, however upgrade your memory from the 1GB up to a total of 2GB, but your current configuration is 2x512mb chips.

So right now you have 2 memory slots available but they are being used by the 2 512mb chips. You will have to remove them and replace them with 2 1gb chips. This can be fairly pricey.
