Question about Dyson DC21 All Floors Stowaway HEPA Bagless Canister Vacuum - Iron/Titanium/Yellow

My DC21 Floor tools keeps shutting off on its own.

    Power head shuts off while in use...how do you fix a power connection? Or is it a filter issue?

You say the floor tool keeps shutting off. The key question is: what do you have to do to get it going again? There are electrical connections at both ends of the hose, and poor contact there can cause the tool to work intermittently - in which case you will find that just moving the hose will cause the tool to switch on and off. You can't do much about these connections other than have a look to see if they appear damaged. Make sure the hose is fully attached at both ends. If this doesn't help, please post again giving more details.

Powerhead on vacuum shuts off after about 5-10 seconds of use. What is cause?


There are several possibilities, some of which you seem to have already checked.
1) The filters are clogged. System will cut out quickly if there is little or no airflow, to prevent overheating.
2) There is a clog somewhere besides the filter. Run through the checking for clogs steps in the manual, page 6. (

3) There is a small, Hall-Effect sensor near the filter that detects that the filter is in place and seated properly. If it is faulty, or the filter ISN'T seated properly, it cuts the power. Replacing that is beyond the scope of what I can safely advise on.
4) There are temperature sensors for the unit. If it's too cold, or too hot, no power. Too hot means the system thinks the battery is overheating, which can be dangerous. If the temp sensor is bad, that could do it too. This is also past what I can really help you on.

If your DC21 Motorhead doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be, you may need to wash the lifetime pre-filter. In normal use this should be washed at least once every 3-6 months using cold water without detergent. Allow at least 12 hours for both parts of the filter to dry completely before replacing them in your machine.

Is there a retractable power cord that will work as a replacement for dc21. Can you just replace the cord or do you have to replace the whole assembly

It ware off! Try attaching a tape around it . One or two rounds until you see it fit hard on the hole . .. If it go hard inn....it come hard off!

I have a dyson DC21 and the motorized brush head shuts off while in use. When I push the reset button it restarts. After a 30 seconds to a minute it shuts off again. It has been cleaned out regularly and...
