Question about Dell Dimension 3100 PC Desktop

1 Answer

No audio Help! I have no audio on my computer. My cat was playing in the wires, and I then received a message on my computer something to the effect of "pci device not found". I checked all the connections, which seem fine. My computer is a Dell. I also downloaded two files from Dell, R143248 and R97809. Nothing works. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

OK well knowing that your cat was playing with the wires to your computer even though there is no visible evidence of damage doesn't mean there isn't any. So my suggestion is to purchase new wires or speakers and that should solve the issue.

I have Polk Audio TSi500 speakers running through a receiver. They sound fine when the radio is playing from the receiver, but when I try to play music from a computer the speakers sound muffled. I have...

Phono jacks are specifically to hook up a turntable to an amplifier (which is what I assume you mean instead by "receiver" ). Most amplifiers have a receiver (radio) section, but they can be separate components. Anyway, try hooking it up to an auxiliary (AUX) input on your amplifier instead. This may be all you need to do. Good luck!

A protection message indicates a problem with the circuitry and a reset will have no effect. If the message persists after disconnecting all of the speaker wires, then it is likely that the output transistors are shorted. This will cost in the $25-$40 range for parts.

I recently removed a phone cradle from my 02 reg BMW 3 series. Cut the cables and wrapped then in insulating tape. The sterio now won't turn on anjust has the message "phone" on the LCD when...

It seems that your car stereo thinks that the phone is off the hook and that you are using it. Probably in the wires is a pair of wires that need to be connected together in order to simulate an on hook condition. In order to see which of these wires are the two, you will need a schematic or wiring diagram. DO NOT start shorting wires together until you get the desired effect. You will almost certainly fry something if you do. If there are only two wires total then you might try connecting them for just a moment while the display reads "phone" and see if the message goes away. Good luck.

I have a Kenwood Audio Video Surround Receiver and some of the sound effects are no longer working properly. The sound on these effects comes out crackly/muffled.

assuming they did sound correct there are some possibilities:

your wiring, if you live a humid area it might be that your wires are a bit corroded at either the speakerterminal or at the receiver terminal. Simply cut of the corroded part and reconnect.

If your surround speakers are on a stand the wires probably hang down and after some time, specially with thinner wires, they might get a bit loose in the connection. Simply reconnecting them will solve it.

Resetting the receiver will sometimes help as well, most of the times this is mentioned in the manual or on manufacturers site.

let me know if solved.

Please help

Shutdown the computer and remove the power cord from the power supply.
Remove the card and check it for any physical damage. Something may have shorted out when you "jammed the jack" into it.

If there is nothing obviously wrong with the card, then reinsert it back into the slot fully, put the holding screw back in place and boot the computer back up.

It should find the drivers automatically (since it was previously installed)

If it dosn't, then shutdown again, move the card to another spare PCI slot and tray again.
Failing that, goto Creatives website. There is an option in the support section to allow Creatives webpage to scan your computer for drivers that you need automatically.

Hope that helps.

Surround center speaker does not work

This is a 5.1 (6 Channel Technology) You should hear only the voice thro the center speaker. If the source you are playing is stereo, however the software splits the source its difficult to seprate the voice track, if the source is a DTS 5.1, then you should hear the voice only thro the center speaker. eg: when you play a DVD movie which is DTS 5.1 then you should hear only the voice track in the center speaker, if the dvd movie is just stereo then you will not hear any audio in the center speaker, while the other four speakers get output, this is the special effect in 5.1 ( 6 channel Output).

Pci slots

Hi, if you were to use something like the GEFORCE FX 5200
graphics card, this would work OK for most low level games. However if you wish to play the top end games you would need to upgrade either your motherboard to one with an AGP slot or better still one with 2 PCI-E slots.
