Question about Symbol PTC 960SL Portable Terminal
To answer your question there are a number of ways to use the PTC960SL in a system. The main 2 ways are by batch process or Telnet session.
The batch process requires a custom program to be written for the device either in DOS or TCAL. This would then produce a single file or a set of files which would then be downloaded to a host pc using a cable or cradle.
The more common method is to have a Telnet Server running and the PTC960SL logs into the session using a Telnet client, AirvuAnsi for example. The Telnet Server holds the menu structure and database manipulation for the PTC960SL. The PTC960SL only emulates what’s running on the server. A permanent connection is required to keep the session open. This is done by either using a stable wireless network or a network controller which keeps the sessions active even if the hand held device goes out of range. This would mean the PTC960SL would have to have a wireless card within it.
