Hi, I have a problem with my laptop, acer aspire 5315 with Vista 32 bit, the problem is no longer reconose the dvd and cd! could give me any solution? would greatly appreciate it, my email is: selas...

Open "my computer" and in a empty spot in the folder right click and select "properties" in the top right hand corner you should see "device manager"
opening that do you see any red X's or yellow !s at the "DVD/CD-ROM" entry?
If you do you can right click them and select "uninstall" reboot and the Operating System will reinstall the drivers.... if it has them which it should.
Even if you don't see any marks at the "DVD/CD-ROM" (if its there) uninstall all entries.
If you don't see "DVD/CD-ROM" listed you may have it disabled in the bios, some virtual drive software holding it out or malware.

Dvd cd room disfunction

Hello Suzanne,

You may be required to go into the registry to fix this issue, so if you are not too comfortable going into the registry, you might want to get help (but I have written the instructions you can follow)

Check the Device Manager.

Start > Control Panel > Double Click the System icon > Click the Hardware Tab at the top of the box that opens > Click the Device Manager Button.

Click the [+] sign beside the category DVD/CD-ROM Drives

After clicking the [+] sign and the DVD/CD-ROMS Devices category opens up, is there a DVD Drive listed? If there is, when you right-click the DVD Drive and choose properties, does it give any error code, like Error code 39 in the grey box that appears when you choose properties?

Normally the DVD drives use the default Windows drivers. Try right clicking the DVD Drive under the DVD/CD-ROM Drives category in Device Manager and choose uninstall. Then reboot the computer and Windows will find the device and re-install drivers automatically.

If you are still getting the error or the Drives do not show up in My Computer ("poste de travail"), it may be an update or some other program that added data to the DVD's driver data in the registry. Try this:

1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type "regedit" (without the quotations) and press Enter. Back up (File > Export) the registry before you make any changes)

3) Click on the plus signs [+] next to the following folders

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  • SYSTEM
  • CurrentControlSet
  • Control
  • Class
  • Left Click and Highlight: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} **Make sure you choose this exact key**
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand side panel:

  • UpperFilters
  • LowerFilters
  • UpperFilters.bak
  • LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed on the right hand side, right-click on them and choose Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

7) Reboot your computer

8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

This should fix the problem, let me know if it worked for you,

RyMS

Try to remove the device from Device manager, and then reinstall or upgrade the driver. If the error continues to occur, it may be possible to edit the operating system Registry to resolve the issue.

Click the Start button, press run and type regedit.
  1. In the Registry Editor window, in the left pane, double-click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder.
  2. In the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder, double-click the System folder.
  3. In the System folder, double-click the CurrentControlSet folder.
  4. In the CurrentControlSet folder, double-click the Control folder.
  5. In the Control folder, double-click the Class folder.
  6. In the Class folder, click to select the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} folder.
  7. In the right pane, click to select the UpperFilters registry value.
  8. Press Del / Delete to remove the registery entry.
  9. In the Confirm Value Delete dialog box, click the Yes button.
  10. In the right pane, click to select the LowerFilters registry value.
  11. Press Del / Delete to remove the registery entry.
  12. In the Confirm Value Delete dialog box, click the Yes button.
  13. close the regedit window.
