Question about Microsoft Internet Explorer 8

Problems trying to install Internet Explorer 8

Got myself into a real problem trying to upgrade from Internet Explorer 7 to version 8. I should add that IE 7 worked flawlessly so I carried no legacy corruption into the IAE 8 download and install. Here is what happened:

At first IE 8 opened and said powered by Yahoo and after it came up I minimized it. However when I tried to bring it back up only half a page displayed.
I then uninstalled IE 8 and using Mozilla Firefox I tried to download IE 7 and it failed to download.
Next using Mozilla I Googled searches in an attempt to learn how to resolve the problem and learned that one must first uninstall SP3 before IE 7 can be installed.
I dutifully uninstalled SP3 and got a popup window telling me that some applications would not work if SP3 is uninstalled - I clicked OK.
I tried to download and install IE 7 (at this point Mozilla Firefox was still functional) - IE 7 still would not work. When attempting to open an error message pops up telling me that Internet Explorer encountered a problem and needs to close
I panicked at this point and tried System Restore at different dates prior to the attempted IE 8 debacle. At this point Mozilla no longer worked. So I have no browser.

I cannot get into safe mode and have run disk cleaners, virus scans, registry scans and rebooted several times with no success.
SP3 is shown on the hard drive and apparently is functional.

I have Win XP home edition with 160 gigs of HDD and 1.2 GB memory and once had a workable current version of Mozilla FIrefox.

Can someone please suggest a remedy.

    Hello,

I have similar problem. I got automatic notification from windows for update to explorer 8. I accepted and it installed, but now when I try my favorites they don't work 'get web page can't be displayed'. I also tried accessing those sites from yahoo, but get same message. They all worked find before.

    Any ideas?

    Best regards,
    Libby

Same thing happened to me. I got the update so I thought I would go ahead and update. After the update I could not email or do other various things and was getting constant error messages. I called my computer guy. After I uninstalled IE8 and after it would not let me do a system reset to a previous date. They had my computer for 3 days. The first day the could not figure out what it was, by process of elimimation they figured out that the IE8 download wiped out my partition. I am very upset about this. I just got back up and running yesterday. I lost 3 days of work and still have not got the bill from them but I can only imagine what it will be!

I have been using IE8 for over two months now and I have recommended it to several people. You should have downloaded it from the Windows update site.Sounds like you got a yhoo version tailored around their search engine instead on MSFT's. You definately do not have to remove the service pack 3 to install Explorer. There is no way to tell how much damage you did with all of the removing and reinstalling. It is likelly that you need to reinstall the operating system due to file corruption, if you choose to do that let me know and we can arrange a time when you have time to do this

Could be a multitude of things without knowing detailed errors, often its to much junk add-ons running in the browser. But I see by the version "8" that your also running an unsupported, non-upgradeable version. You may consider FireFox. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/
