One thing you can always do is click on "My Computer" and you will see the device and the files on it.

There is a place in Windows where you can tell the computer to give you the options as you first saw, but I can't remember just where it is. I'll look it up if you need me to.

    Now that is really strange.
In that case, here is what I would do--seeing as how it worked before.
Get into device manager (right click on My Computer, choose properties, then hardware then device manager, and scroll to the bottom of the devices you see. Delete each one of the USB devices.
When you restart the computer, it will find the devices. Perhaps the drivers are corrupt. Let me know if that works for you.

After you uninstalled them and restarted the system, did they all come back?
You seem to be indicating that if they came back, there was no change in the problem--still won't read the USB drive.
Coincidentally, I just had a computer in my shop that, when a USB device was plugged in, I got the two-tone sound that it was plugged in, but nothing showed up. Finally came to the conclusion that there was something in Windows that was messed up.
So--a Windows repair was called for. I can help you with that if need be. But right now it's bedtime for me. But I'll be back tomorrow morning.
Let me know and we'll work in it.

Back again: If you can determine just when the computer stopped reading the USB flash drive, try to do a system restore back to that time and see if that cures the problem. If not, we'll have to do something else.

I have a DTI/64GB Kingston DataTraveler flash drive. i try transfer document from my flash drive but it read: it is write-protected: is there anyone could help to remove the write protected. i wil be...

USB drives can be write-protected by modifying the StoreageDevicePolicies Registry key and WriteProtect Registry value.
click Start>run>regedit to open Registry Editor. and press control+F to open the find dialogue box and type "usb device" or "driverdesc" to open usb mass storage device or type "usb mass storage device" in the search windows. And right click on it and delete. This will set the policy value to 0. then insert your usb device. It will work fine.
# Remember: do not delete any unknow files in the registry as this will make some programes not work as usual.

also
If you are running a Windows XP OS then you might be able to:

- click start right click on my computer select open
- Right click the icon of your Flash Drive (It should be F:/ or something)
- Click Properties in the menu that comes up
- Click the Sharing tab
- Click permissions
- And finally, click Allow next to Full Control.

hope this helps

Hi, i put in my sandisk usb, computer sees it but wont let me store anything on it??

Your SanDisk Cruzer appears on your computer as two drives
  1. A CD-ROM ( with the icon of a Cd-Rom) that contains the U3Smart Operating system, but does not have any space for storage.
  2. A mass storage device.
The two devices are labeled sequentially if CD-ROM is E, the mass-storage drive is F, but that is not guaranteed.

You should drop files on the mass-storage device, not the CD-ROM.
