The camera is saying this for 1 of 2 reasons - the card is locked, or the card has become corrupted and needs to be re-formatted.

Since you didnt include specifics- like camera make/model and memory type - i can only offer generic help.

Most newer SD, XD, and Compact Flash Drive memory have locking switches to prevent accidental deleting of files on the memory card. (see blue and white arrow in pictures)

The only switch on memory cards is the tiny writing protection switch located on a side of several cards. , If that is what you mean, up is unlocked down locked.

If you want instead to clear all data on memory card using the command format memory card in camera menu

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

Where is that switch to reset on the memory card protection? Whgen I try to take new picture the screen shows as follows:reset switch on memory card, where is that switch?

On the card itself (the tiny slide switch on its side). There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". Some include trying to use of a 4GB SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Others include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link.
