Hi

OL is a good reading, it represents a reading of greater than 400Mohm, with any insulation testing the greater the value the better.

Thanks
Danny

I have a amprobe 45 and am trying to test electrical cables.
when I set meter to 250,500 or 1000 and hit the test button the meter flashes once and reads 0.000.

    HI

I have Amprobe AMB-45 that when I measure a 1K resistor is measured 1.6k and gather tips measured 0.7 to 0.8ohm someone will know if you have any calibration so you can accurately measure

    Thanks

To do this safely, you'll need a "clamp-on type ammeter" or "amprobe" . They look like this:
8f374762-5c6f-41b7-9e5e-2dd88a82aa6e.gif
The nice thing about "clamp on type ammeters" is that they do not require physical connection to or disconnecting of any wire(s). Instead, simply set the scale for the most current you expect to see, clamp around ONE wire and adjust the scale as needed & read the meter for the most accurate reading.

There are available in various sizes and by other manufacturers - that offer a wide range of prices. Amprobe is the name of a particular company that invented this years ago - and makes this one - and other electrical test equipment. A search for images of "Amprobe" returns these.

Power off compressor . check open line with amprobe from c-s , s-r , r-c .Also check short to ground on c-grnd, r-grnd , s-grnd. with
amprobe,
if OL shows on amprobe a winding is open or burnt.

Is diode on delonghi dmx50 supposed to be OL or a resistance through and if so what would be the resistance

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
First off before testing the diode you must disconnect ONE terminal of the diode to properly test it.
This is going to sound nuts but the answer is it should read both OL and ZERO .... The reading is Open in one direction (OL) and ZERO in the other direction. Just swap the test probe leads on the diode. The purpose of the diode is to only allow the flow of energy on ONE direction. So in one direction it acts like a wire (ZERO ohms) and when you reverse the leads it acts like you cut the wire. (infinity or no resistance) If it reads ZERO in both directions or infinity in both directions it is bad.
Just make sure you have shorted across the HV Capacitor several times by holding a screwdriver well back on the handle before even messing with the diode. After you have made sure that the capacitor is no longer charged... test the capacitor by probing the 2 terminals and watching for a brief jump in resistance and then resistance drifts to infinity. Reverse the test leads and watch for the same jump in resistance and drifting to infinity (OL) No Jump in resistance = Bad Cap Also read each of the 2 terminal posts to the body of the capacitor. NO resistance is allowed. Any resistance reading below 240,000 Ohms when reding either terminal to the body of the capacitor = bad capacitor.

ALL TESTS ARE DOWN WITH NO POWER TO THE UNIT! (Unplugged)

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

AO Smith SQ1102 pump motor: how do I wire this thing? How do I know if I set it to 115 or 230? I justed popped my 20 amp fuse.

On your motor name plate there is a diagram with motor terminal numbers that shows you the feeder wires connections for 115 & 230VAC. You don't need to change any internal motor wiring connections because those are only CW or CCW motor rotation. As you told it tripped your circuit breaker, b4 u will attemp to make any connection you need to test your motor's winding insulation insulation first by using megger tester or ordinary analog tester clipping one lead to the casing and one lead to the motor terminals one by one.

I have an ariston dishwasher. it trips out the circut breaker every time i turn it on. all the motor, heating element etc are fine, so what could it be? im also after a wiring diagram. i think its an L65?...

When you say the motor and heater are fine have you applied an insulation resistance test to these components and to the whole machine for that matter. To trace a 'tripping' fault you need a megger, not just visual or a meter. You might go looking in the wrong place if you haven't megger tested the machine. Good Luck Tony

Im involved in an Insulation Resistance Test for Motors & equipment. The specs call for a tempeture reading: ambient, and ''Readings Corrected 25degC'' What does this mean?

Taking the ambient temperature means that you to take the temperature of the air that surrounds the motor. If the ambient temperture is 25 degrees C (or 77 degrees F) you do not need to make a correction to the motor insulation resistance reading that you get from the megger.
If the ambient temperature is, say, 97 degrees F then you would want to adjust your megger reading according to the correction factor table provided by the megger manufacturer at 97 degrees F.
Just multiply the megger reading by the ambient temperature correction factor.

Will the Amprobe AMB-45 test coax cable output?

The Amprobe Digital Megohmmeter, Model# AMB-45 is an insulation tester that checks to see if conductors are leaking current to ground or the shield in a coax, for example. It will not check the output of a modulator, it may actually damage the modulator.
