Windows XP not recognising HP ScanJet 5370C

I have just purchased a new computer with Windows XP. My ScanJet 5370C was working fine on the previous computer which also had Windows XP. I downloaded the driver from the HP drivers and downloads site, but the computer will not recognise the scanner. I have uninstalled and installed it several times, disconnecting the scanner, but to no avail.

My HP ScanJet 5370C worked fine on my desktop pc until the pc died. For my newer HP Pavillion dv5, XP OS, laptop. I successfully (I think) downloaded and installed appropriate driver from HP website. But after repeated attempts, still get error message that my laptop cannot find my scanner. --JJP

No, because I contacted HP and they could not tell me when, or if, they would provide an updated driver.

Does your new computer detect the new hardware which is your Scanner whenever you boot or connect it to your computer...?

If its a new computer, but with the same software, don't you think it would be the computer's problem???

I need a free driver for a scanjet 5370c scanner to run on Vista many thanks

hp does not have Vista drivers for your Scanjet 5370c model.

Workaround,
You can try to Vuescan program(Trial) from http://www.hamrick.com/, then install the Scanjet 5370c XP installer to your PC. Try and see whether it works!

Hope it helps.

How can I get ScanJet 5370C to work on Vista Premium with my Gateway Computer.

Unfortunately HP have not created any drivers for your Scanner for Vista and I have been informed that they are not planning to either.
There is a "work around" If you download Microsoft's Virtual PC and install a copy of windows XP you would then be able to scan using the "Virtual PC" inside of your Vista operating system. Otherwise the only way out is to purchase a new scanner Sorry to be the barer of bad news

Can I get a driver to use your hp ScanJet 5370c

Yes, there is... but the catch is you have to order it from HP.
I thought it would be a free download as they providde for Windows OS, but that's not the case.

Here's a link to order it for MacOSX...

How to remove & reinstall HP 5370C Scanner & 4315 All-in_One

How to uninstall the software depends on your operating system. If you have windows XP, click on the Start buton, select "Control Panel". When it opens select "Add of Remove" programs (lcick). Wait for the list of progrms to appear and then look for the HP Scanjet software. Click on it and you will be given the option to uninstall. Click to uninstall. When the uninstall has finished, restart your computer and begin the process of reinstalling the software provided by HP again. If you do not have the software, go to www.HP.com and in their "sopport" section enter Scanjet 5370 in the search list.It will give you 3 options, depending on your scnner model. You should probably select the first option 5370c. click on it and it will take you to software downloads. Select the most recent and largest file to download. This will provide the latest software for your 5370. Run the program, restart (reboot) your computer,THEN plug in your USB cord. The computer should tell you that new hardware has been found. Follwo the messages on the screen and (hopefully) your scanner sill woork. The process for Windows 98 and Vista is similr to what I have outlined for Windows XP. Good luck
