First check you dont have a red line through your speaker on your toolbar. If so click it and "UN-mute it.

Check that the speakers are plugged into the GREEN port on the back of the computer and that the speakers are powered up with the volume at about 1/2 way.

If you dont have a volume control icon or it is greyed out the got get the drivers for your sound card (either on the motherboard CD or from the BIOSTAR website) and install that first. Make sure it is for YOUR board !

Open volume control.
When the box with all the sliders opens up click on OPTIONS (top left)
Click PROERTIES

Make sure that Volume controls, Wave, SW Synth, CD PLayer, Line IN, and MIC all show on there and that the volume sliders are about half way up.

Make sure none of the sliders have ticks at the bottom, if so UNTICK them.

If any of those are missing click options then properties from the top left and put a tick besides any that were missing (nothing else unles you know you want that item)

Now close the slider box.

Put a normal music cd in your cd/dvd player on the computer and set it to play with windows media player.

You should now have sound out of the speakers.

If not double check that you have no problems with your hardware from the device manager.

Maybe your computer is infected with a virus try scanning your pc for viruses, and install the driver again. if problems persist, reformatting your pc is the last option.

Some settings wrongly done in my laptop hence sound is not working properly. plz advice

If you can hear sound when you test it via the control panel, then the sound hardware and drivers are good. Whatever software or application you are using that is ailing to provide sound is probably the culprit.

Audo card how to replace

Open pc, remove sound card if not inbuilt to the motherboard, install new sound card into pci slot, close pc. Turn on.

I inbuilt sound card, boot up and hold del button to enter setup. Disable the inbuilt audio.

Boot up and insert disc with audio drivers for new sound card. Done.

The sound card will have one screw holding it in place to the case.

No sound

You can check system settings with microsoft fixit center.
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/no_sound/en-us

Sometimes you can see another application is using the speaker. So you can boot in safe mode and use the application again to see whether the sound is working. If all the volume and device choosing are right in control panel, then you can try to update the sound card driver or switch devices and see.

Hi, which OS are you using pls?

Normally you click start then right click My Computer or Computer in Win7, click properties, on the next screen click device manager top left, then you should see an exclamation mark next to the sound sound icon, open this with the + sign, right click the sound card and click update driver, this should then search online, if it doesnt then right click the the sound card again and click uninstall. After youve done this then at the top click ACTION and the SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES, it will then search online for the latest driver, this one will work.

Thanks Mark ;-)

Sound Not Working (discrete sound card)
You probably need to make sure the new sound card is properly installed. Check device manager and make sure the new sound card does not have a yellow exclamation mark next to it.

If the card and driver are propery installed, then you can either disable the onboard audio from BIOS (enter this when the computer first boots up by pressing either F2 or delete several times)

Or
go to control panel, sound, and check the sound card as the default. Do this for .WAV and .MIDI and whatever else you see.

And that should take care of it.

No Sound (integrated Sound card)
check device manager. This can be done in Win XP by right clicking my computer, properties, hardware, then click device manager. Alternative way to enter device manager is by clicking start menu, control panel, system (performance and maintenance), hardware then device manager.

In the deice manager window see if any question marks or exclamation points are visible.

If so, see if it the mark is for an audio device.

If it is an audio device, uninstall the device.

Next, try to install the sound card driver again. If that fails, the enter the device manager and uninstall the sound card again, restart the PC, ignore the hardware manager, and try to install the sound card driver software again.

I not getting sound from my computer,I want to install M2V-MXSE ASUS. can u plz tell me where these sound drivers are available.......

either from the asus website, http://usa.asus.com/index.aspx ,or from Realtec, that is the hardware that asus normally uses on their motherboard. But just go to the asus site and click on the support and it will ask you the model number of the board that's it. You will see if there are any other downloads that came out for your board also. You should keep that link in your favorites. Here is the exact page for your board just download the driver here. thanks and dont forget to rate my answer, I appreciate it, thanks again,Gym

Please check the fan if it touches the assembly. Uninstall the driver at safemode and boot again in normal mode and install the driver again. Else, check or clean your registry using known software tools for this. Good luck.

That is your computer trying to boot from your network adapter.

Check in the bios the boot order.

Set it to
  1. CD/DVD Rom
  2. IDE0
  3. IDE1 or whatever you want.
Also check the first page to see if it has actually found your hard drive and cdrom. If not check the cables are connected. If they are both on the same cable then check the jumpers on the drives to make sure you have them set as Master (hard drive) and slave (cdrom) or both set to cable select.
