From your description of the problem it is impossible to determine the cause. Likely your memory is incompatible with your system, but you must provide more information to be sure.

It seems 1 gb ram you have tried to install is not compatiable with this ibm t30. I will advice you to check the type and frequeny of 1gb ram you bought it will be written like DDR 400MHZ OR pc2 533/667 MHZ please check these two things and it should be matching with the original 256 ram which was working.

It looks like common problem: my OLD T30 can see only one 256mB memory slot. Does it make sense to install one 512 mB unit? Can T30 recognize 1gB memory? Thank you in advance

Hello

Yes, you system will support up to 1GB of ram, so, if i were you i would suggest that you buy a 1GB chip, this will give you the best performance upgrade. And, ram is so cheap at the moment, so, i think it will be the best option.

Let me know if you found this helpful.

Kind regards

How can increes speed of computer.

you are using Thinkpad T30 2366 and if it has a low RAM (memory) you can upgrade that. I check your computer specs online and what I saw is this P4-M 1.8 GHz but unable to verify if it has 256mb RAM. If it does you can upgrade that to 512mb.

you can look on this website { http://www.edgetechcorp.com/memory/upgrade.asp?cid=27556 } just to check the compatible RAM for your computer.

After adding 256 MB with existing 256 MB showing only 256 MB in BIOS instead of 512 MB

The problem could be One of the 256MB RAM is not deatected as not inserted properly or due to malfunction.

Download this small application.

Here is the link

http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz/cpuz_153_setup.exe

Download this application and run (you don't need to install this software).

Check in which SLOT your RAM is Working using the above application.

Try to insert it properly again. You can also try by interchanging The RAM, yso that you can pin point whihc of the RAM is malfunctioning in case of MALFUNCTION.

T 30 IBM MEMORY PROBLEM

Hi!

Call 800-IBM-SERV and describe the problem. Say that you heard that there's an "engineering change" available to correct it, described in document MIGR-44772.

Repair should be free within the warranty period, and probably free even outside the warranty.

Have fun!

Ram install problem

with RAM there can be a few problems
1) the frequency of ram which *********** board supports might be less than the freq at which the ram you are puttin works, hence in this case RAM wont work on this mother board and ull have to get the RAM replaced
2) some motherboards do not support a 2 x 1 GB RAM where as they might support a 1 X 2 RAM (if you do have 2 mem slots for ram)
and then there is the most trivial problem of the slot not being clean or arm not being put properly, i can think of ne other reason for the ram not working properly..

IBM ThinkPad T40 2GB Max RAM

The T40 has two ram slots, you can put a 1g chip in each totaling 2g. If the chip will remove, then it is changeable. Vista needs a minimum of 256 to run, so, when you change BOTH chips to equal 2g it will probably read 1.744g, or it may read the full 2g. If it only reads 1g, then the second slot under keyboard may have malfunctioned. It could also be that the 256 chip is bad and your really only running 512 now. With all that said, in order to achieve 2g, you will need to put a 1g chip in each slot.
