Lexmark x6170 printer plugged in, but I cannot install

Please install the Lexmark printer on Windows XP using the "Add Printer Wizard" by following the steps given below:
1. Go to "Start," "Control Panel" and "Printers and Faxes."
2. Click on "Add Printer" and then click "Next."
3. Select "Local Printer" and then click "Next."
4. Select the required Port (USB001 Virtual Printer Port if the printer has already been connected) and click "Next."
Note: If the printer has not been connected, select "File."
5. Click the "Have Disk" button.
6. When the "Install From Disk" screen appears, click "Browse."
7. From the "Locate File" screen, in the "Look In" option, select "Drivers."
8. Click "Open" and then click "OK" in the next screen.
9. When the name Lexmark printer is displayed, click "Next."
10. Leave the name as Lexmark printer and choose whether or not you want the printer to be the default.
11. Indicate whether or not you want to print a "Test Page."
Note: This is the "Windows Test Page." It won't be printed before the cartridges are selected.
12. Click on "Finish." The printer files will then start to copy from the CD.
13. Please follow the on-screen instructions to finish installing the printer.

I lost the cd and my computer dont communicate whith the printer x6170


A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection.


If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

1. Disconnect the printer from your computer.

2. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.

2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.

3. Delete the Lexmark print object.

4. Reboot your pc.

5. When your pc turns on, reconnect the printer.

6. Wait until your pc fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, then try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

I have upgraded to Windows 7 and my Lexmark X6170 will print but not scan. I need the scanner badly. Please advise on solution.

How do you install a new black printer cartridge?


Here's the link to download the Lexmark X6170 User's Guide: http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/x6100/eng/ug.pdf. Scroll to Maintaining your All-in-One, Replace the Print Cartridge Page 76 for the instructions on how to replace the cartridges.
In some cases, the ink cartridge carrier won't position itself in the middle even when the printer is on and the cover is open. Just unplug the printer from the power source. With the cover open, hold the white tape in the middle inside the printer. The other end of it is connected to the carrier. Gently slide the carrier to the center. Load the cartridges. Close the cover. Plug the printer back to power source. Hope this helps.

You will need to go on-line and find the Windows Vista download for the drivers and software for the item you are installing. After installing; re-start computer and see if printer prints.

I do not know what operating system you are using, But most including Windows Vista and Windows XP are plug and play. That means that they will detect and set up your printer automatically. If it does not do so, when you connect the printer, just go into control panel and select add new hardware.

X6170 Prints only one page then freezes


drivers are most likely not up to date, especially if you used the old ones. Gotta go to lexmark, and get the latest Vista friendly driver. I recommend the highest quality one, with the most features(so that Vista won't spit it out again).
