Question about Apple PowerBook G4 Mac Notebook

Add Memory to G4 Notebook

I have an Apple G4 laptop with 512MB of memory. I would like to upgrade the memory but do not know where the memory resides or how to upgrade if I purchase more memory. Please advise how I upgrade if I purchase the memory. A Crucial.com analysis indicates that I can replace the 512MB with 1G, but I do not know how to accomplish this. Thanks,Don

There is a Ram door on the back of the unit. Take the 4 Philips screws off and open the door to get to the memory.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

    Thanks, Joe

Don it's real easy.

Slim down version

  • Pop the cover and you'll see the motherboard.
  • Atach anti-static cable to chasis of pc and touch the battery pack or pc frame.
  • Put the card in the memory slot.
  • Remvoe cable adn replace cover.
  • Re-start pc.
Note:

I wouldn't fix your pc on carpet (static reasons) or while your standing wearing socks on carpet with the Mac on the table (obviously).

Sounds simple but you've never believe how may people forget.

That's it.

I tried to upgrade the memory of my 450 sx4 pc from 512mb to 1 GB

You may have installed a memory card or stick (unit) that is not compatible with your computer. Make sure the unit is compatible, as you cannot add just any brand of memory upgrade units to any computer. They have to be compatible.

I suggest visiting the store of where it was purchased or a computer store, or possibly the manufacturer of the computer to find out what memory units are compatible.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Not recognized by 2tb hitachi simpledrive

USB ports on computers can be either the older '1.1' speed, or the newer (and much faster) '2.0' high-speed.

Your external drive is capable of using the high-speed USB 2.0 interface, but you connected it to a USB 1.1 port on your computer.

So, you can either "live" with the slower speed of a 1.1 port, or you can "upgrade" -- add hardware to your computer to add USB 2.0 ports -- so that the external drive will be over 7 times faster.

Thinkpad T20 won't accept memory upgrade

according to ibm
you are allowed only pc100 memory with a maximum of 512mb.
when handling memory make sure you are grounded before touching any memory chips.
try getting another set of 256mb chips and grounding yourself before installing them.

Want to replace 2x 256mb of memory with 2x 512mb of memory into my hp compaq presario v4000

Hi there.
Yes you can upgrade the memory to 2 x 512MB DDR SDRAM memory.
You will be pleased to know that the system supports up to 2GB DDR SDRAM memory (2 x 1GB)
Please be gentle when installing the new memory taking care to remove the battery and the mains power from the laptop first before installing.

Have fun and thanks for using FixYa!!

My G4 466 graphite won't see my low density 512mb sdram stick!

As long as the 512MB RAM chip is running at 133Mhz it should work, it may have compatibility issues with the other RAM in the unit. Try removing the other RAM first if it does not work after that you probably have a faulty piece of memory.
