My USB won't work on any computers, it doesn't light up and doesn't show up in My Computer. It's supposed to be under Removable Disk L: but it's simply not there. I don't know what to do, can anyone help me? (I really need the files on it, if not, at least the usb)

Hi

I could have a look at it over remote support but it may very likely be un recoverable, I do have a file recovery software we can use if we get the drive to work.

http://www.fastsupport.com/477513046 This link will start the remote support session if asked the support key is without spaces 477 513 046 if you have any problems in starting the session use the manually download software link on the bottom.

this will work for around 30 minutes, I will be available ones you join the session you can open up the chat and wait for me to respond I might go away from the computer for few minutes now and then.

    Hello?

When would you be availabe and we could look into it.

If you prefer we can go text only.

Is the usb stick detected in device manager? right click on my computer and select manage, then on the left side select device manager and on right side see the device manager, plug in the usb stick does it appear? do you see a yellow ? or ! mark do you see a unknown device?

if noting happens then the usb stick is most likely damaged and beond home repair you would need to use a professional data recovery service and send the stick to them for recovery and or repair.

When I plug in the Toshiba HardDrive, it doesn't show on the drives list. I inserted it before and it showed just fine. I even stored some files inside it. but now it's not showing at all.

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this program to recover your files.

Either the external USB interface is damaged (non-fatal) or the internal drive is having an issue.
If you know what you are doing, you can remove the drive from the casing and mount it internally in a PC and hopefully retrieve your data that way.
If you aren't tech savvy, you may want to try a place like www.SuperTech-IT.com to send the drive in for data recovery.

Please check your USB ports and make sure that there is no shorting or over current.Usually external Hard drives gets fused under the above circumstances. Please check on other USB ports or another PC.If it doesn't responds please contact your nearest service center and ask them for a data recovery. It won't come under the warranty claim if the damage is severe.

I have a really old computer and I put my flash drive into the where it is supposed to go, but nothing came up. What am I supposed to do?

Some Flash Drives don't come with an "autorun" installed in it, if you have a Windows 7 Operative System, it might be installing the driver for it. If it's already installed, go to your computer menu and check if the drive shows up there (In the "removable drives/devices" area). If it doesn't show up, try plugin it in another USB port, your port might be the on not working.

Since it doesn't show up in both pc's then the iOmega is faulty - it must have suffered a shock during transfer and this is terminal. Your only hope of recovering what's in it is to dismantle it, take out the hard disk and put it in the desktop - if even there it doesn't show up then it's dead, junk it.

How to recover dead USB

You don't have backup copies of these "important" files? Why would you not have a copy on your PC/Laptop, that you copy back and forth?
Good news is $10 gets you a new one
