this happins on all programs, weather I am using email, or on the web, or on facebook, etc.

My desktop was originaly a NEC, but has been upgraded over the years, and only some things are still NEC. New mother board, ram, cd drive hard drive etc, all changed.

Another thing I forgot to tell you:

Keep geting message : To free up disk space outlook express can compact messeges, if I check ok it will only go 1/2 way than stop(shut down) I cannot find a way to stop this message

Also sometimes the A drive goes off by itself, as if you called for it and it never had a disk in it. This noise will keep on until I put a disk in it. ( altough it has not done this now for some time)

  • weldon381 Apr 12, 2009

Sorry for the mistake I removed the 2+256 mb =512 MB and installed 2+512 mb = 1024 MB NOW

Is this limited to just a few programs? have you tried reinstalling the program that does it?

Can you tell me more about what programs do this and when.

Are you using xp or vista, also can you tell me the spesifications of the computer, Ram, cpu, hard drive, video card, how old is it?

  • Ekse Apr 12, 2009

I see, its quite old machine, How many programs do you have open on the background? with that kind of a cpu and only 512mb of ram you can't have much open at the same time and keep the computer running smoothly.

I could have a look into your computer over remote support if your intrested (included in the original 9.99) and see if I can improve or find the source of the problem with you. This link will start the remote support session if asked the support key is without spaces 178 625 956 if you have any problems in starting the session use the manually download software link on the bottom.

this will work for around 30 minutes, I will be available ones you join the session you can open up the chat and wait for me to respond I might go away from the computer for few minutes now and then.

  • Ekse Apr 12, 2009

Sure, start the remote support session and lets look into it.

My email is let me know if any problems come up.

Sony VPCEC1M1E keeps freezing

This is probably due to bad ram memory, remove one stick of ram and use the laptop normally, if no change, remove the second piece and replace the first.

My computer too slow always get the not responding reply.

Eliminate Viruses and Spyware
Step 1

Run your antivirus program. There may be something slowing your computer that you can remove. It is a good idea to run your antivirus program every week.
Step 2

Remove spyware. Run a good spyware tool at least twice a month.
Step 3

Use a pop-up blocker, if you have one. Check your antivirus program.

Dispose of the Extras

Step 1

Delete your document files for anything you no longer need. Saved pictures, audio and video files in particular can slow your computer.

Step 2

Remove unwanted programs from the Control Panel area. Old toolbars or games the kids downloaded off the Internet are a good place to start. Look for software you no longer use, such as the old printer you threw out last year.

Step 3

Clean out your email. Old messages are a constant drain on your computer's resources. Go through every folder, deleting everything you do not need. Leave no mail! Finish by emptying the Deleted Items folder.

Step 4

Turn off unnecessary programs. Check your taskbar for icons that show running programs. Disable anything you are not currently using.

Run Maintenance

Step 1

Run the Disk Cleanup tool located in your Control Panel. (Windows only. For other operating systems, please check the Resources section below.) This will remove temporary files, cookies and unnecessary components to speed up your computer.

Step 2

Defragment your computer. Defragging takes some time, but will speed your computer significantly. You can find the tool in your Control Panel. Run it monthly.

Step 3

Check for disk errors. Sometimes corrupted files slow down your computer. To find and fix these files, Go to My Computer and right-click on C drive. Choose Properties, then Tools.

It keeps freezing up and the touch screen stops working at times

Have you added any new apps recently? Thats the usual suspect for this. If you can remember which one try taking it out and see if it behaves then.

It can be also from something as simple as running out of ram or space. Some apps don't handle this well and you get lockups or temp freezes. And sometimes this results in corrupted files which cause it to happen or other problems. Delete anything you don;t use anymore and that will help. Doing a hard reset and then restoring your files usually fixes anything else.

It is rarely hardware related. You would see a lot of slow operation, and probably it would run warm or hot. Usually if its hardware they just stop.

My Facebook chat window freezes up when someone responds to me

Try Using Different Browsers other then IE explorer 8 or below, they have problems working with new chat windows and stuff that it don't really recognize. For instance try firefox, opera, google chrome, safari 4

One of these would have to work with facebook, if not make sure you have enough RAM space to even run anything other then browser sometimes a slow machine can just freeze from working it self to hard.

Computer running much slower - Not responding.

The most common reason for slow processing speed is insufficient RAM memory.

Increase the RAM, if RAM available is no more than 512MB, then it must be upgraded.

Check also your hard drive state. If you have less than 1GB free, that will slow down the system. Go to Start>>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defregmenter and do a Defrag of the hard disk.

If you have at least 1 GB RAM, and you took care of the hard drive, then you can check the process starting up on their own and remove the useless one, or spot mala-ware that can affect speed. You can use a software like Hijack This, and search on google te function of each process started on the list reported by the software.

You can download Hijack this here MajorGeeks | If download does not start, then click at the top of the page, where it says Click Here If It Does Not.
Be careful if you delete the wrong files using this software you can harm the system, and Windows may not work properly.

If you think you have malaware you can also install Spy Bot, and do a system scan. Download Spybot from The home of Spybot.

If all the above does not work, and there is no malaware, then you usually reinstall the system.

Check also the bios settings, BIOS can downgrade the CPU speed on default , even if this is uncommon on recent BIOS.

If a computer is still slow with a fresh system and enough resources then it is one of those rare occasions when you have an hardware fault.
Hardware that can cause slow down is: RAM CPU Motherboard HD Video card.

Some tips on procedure can damage your windows installation. Do not download Hijackthis software and do not change BIOS settings and do not touch hardware unless you are sure of what you are doing.

Dell 5150 will not boot

how old is the system? Have you made any changes to the system (taken anything out then put it back in? Does it COUNT the memory? is the count proper? are there any BEEP CODES being sent? if there are beep codes then write them down.. if there is a non stop beep code then something is not plugged in properly Have you added any new hardware? IE any new cards? any new RAM? DELL is an extremely PROPRIETARY system basically means that not all hardware will word in it.. if you added any new hardware, try to remove the new additions, see if it starts properly then.. It appears that the graphics card is functional since you say it makes it to the POST.. crack the system open remove and reistall the RAM memory it is possible one or more has worked loose or maybe put in somewhat out of sync.. I had a NB that I put some new RAM into, and the RAM was misconfigured even though it claimed to be for HP.. I replaced the new ram with the old and it straightened everything out for me.. sometimes the 8/16/32 nit cards won't be completely seated and that causes massive headaches too

Computer keeps freezing up and often gives me a message that says microsoft not responding

Did you install software recently? Did you add on any hardware? You might need to unistall whatever you installed and/or remove whatever hardware you added.

How much memory you have? How many start up programs you have running in the background. There could be numerous things going on that would give you freezing and non response.

Screen turn freeze

check for spyware (free copy on called ad-ware) and virus (if yours is out of date or not got one use AVG you can get this from , also check what programs that are running in the back ground as some freeware does slow your PC down a lot.

if you have a full copy of windows xp run it at boot up the run the windows recovery, this will mean you will not loss the data on you laptop. But its always best to back up your data before hand :) if this locks up on a recovery then your going to have to format the laptop and start again
