Question about HP LaserJet 4si Printer

Won's print pdf files

If printing a regular text file, I have no issues. However, in trying to print a pdf file that has a picture on it, the entire page comes out pitch black. Any ideas?

Re: Won's print pdf files

Trouble with the HP Laserjet printed output may be solved by using the following settings (or similarly named ones): "Use raster Graphics" (instead of "Use vector graphics"). This may fix the problem of "reversed" text (white on black background) not printing, as well as other problems. "Download TrueType Fonts as bitmap soft fonts" (select "bitmap" instead of "outline" or "graphics"). This may remove the overlapping of text on the printed document. "Graphics dithering" select "coarse" or "fine" (instead of "none"). This selection may improve the quality of images contained in the document. You can find all these settings in your printer properties. Go to File, Print, click Preferences, in Printing Preferences, click one by one all the top options, and change one of the top solutions, one at the time, checking your printing output. Always check if you have the latest version of Adobe Reader Program. If not download the latest version from Adobe, it's free. Is this the first time that you have the problem? or with the same printer (HP 4si), did you were able to print PDF files in the past?

How to solve the problem of undesired changing size of printing only in PDF file formats?

If you're saying this happens to PDF's you download from web sites the only thing I can suggest is to uninstall and reinstall Adobe Acrobat, as something has gone horribly wrong with it. PDF stands for portable document format, it's sole purpose is to transmit documents in a way that always prints the same. If it's not doing that, it's broken.

If these are PDF's you are creating, by "printing" to a virtual printer that generates PDF, there's some issue with that virtual printer software's settings. Without knowing what it is, I couldn't guess. Try PDFMachine by Broadbear Software, it's excellent.

How to solve the problem of undesired changing size after printing only in PDF files?

You should see the PDF as a picture. Nothing can be changed (unless you have permission)
Most of the time when starting the print job, the menu gives you some options to educe the size of the page or print to fit the page in the printer.
I hope this helps?

The paper size of PDF file maye vary from what you printer supports or the size of paper you are using. Whenever you try to print any PDF file, it always tries to shrink the size into the size which is available.

Unable to print text documents

Some times image/picture files are very big files. That big size, in mega-bytes, some times conflicts with your amount of available memory. It could effect the print que or ram. Try running the file through a picture editing program edit the files then rename and save them. You can check the file size prior and then after you run the file through the program. If the file size is lowered it should print.

Does not print pdf files

It sounds like it is a printer memory issue. That printer comes with just 64MB of memory and PDF files are complicated for most printers. Try printing a few pages at a time for that PDF file and see if that works. If so than it is a memory issue.
