Question about Panasonic PV-GS300 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Panasonic PV-GS300 I have a panasonic digital mini-dv camcorder that cost about 400. It is not even a year old. I dropped it but it works except for the the LCD screen which has a crack and is only showing a white light. Instead of sending to a repair shop (which will cost me about 200.) is not better for me to try to replace the lcd screen myself? The part does not cost more then 70. How hard is it to merely take off the old broken lcd screen and replace withanother. Is it plug and play or does it require more complicated electronic work?

The problems you list are common and very repairable and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, they are not user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Panasonic PV-GS300 Mini DV Digital Camcorder Driver For Windows 7 I have used this camcorder on Windows XP

Okay, it is a pain in the neck, but it will allow you to get your videos off of the GS300 and into a usable .avi format...

If you go to the Panasonic Website, it will give you an option to download two video editing programs. Movie Studio and SweetMovieLife. Download SWEETMOVIELIFE, the other program is very limiting, but SweeMovieLife will capture the video and save it as an .avi file and you can then movie it into a better editing program such as Camtasia or Microsoft Movie Maker. It adds a few extra steps to the process, but will at least allow you to use the GS300 in the Windows 7 Environment until Microsoft wakes up and comes up with a fix for this extremely annoying issue!!! Hope this helps! :)

P.S. If you try to use MovieStudio, it saves the file as an .hap file and does not give you another option. None of my "real" video editing programs recognize that extension. Personally, I think the program was pretty useless.
