Why not do it directly with the if statement? ie In Cell c56 put the following formula: if(c54="PT6agi",2.88,if(c54="PT45jal",2.6,if(c54=....)))

The "&" symbol is commonly known as "ampersand" and it is a calculation operator. Ampersand can be used in Excel 2010 to join text items from different cells. It functions much similar as "CONCATENATE" function. The output value you will get by using ampersand function will be the same as the one you will get by using CONCATENATE function. For example, =A1 & B1 returns the same value as=CONCATENATE(A1, B1)

Formulas are used to specify calculations based on values in designated cells. Excel supports basic calculations as well as statistical, trigonometric and other specialized functions.

Formulas used in Excel must follow a certain syntax.

Your problem is not so much the formula but the cells that contain the hours for each call. Since they contain the text “hrs” (for example “2.25hrs”) this turns the whole cell to text, not numeric, which will always add up to zero in Excel. So do two things:

- Change the cells in column H (Time Spent) to numeric (2.25 instead of 2.25hrs) – you might want to change the column header to Time Spent In Hrs just to b clear

- Use this formula =SUMIF(E8:E26, 1, H8:H26)

For the formula change the middle number to correspond to the operator ID – for example for operator 2 change the formula to =SUMIF(E8:E26, 2, H8:H26)

This should do it.

Block off the cells (or row or column) in question, right-click and choose FORMAT CELLS. In the NUMBER tab, choose TEXT. This will make your dates appear exactly as they are typed, and not allow Excel to reformat them.
