SOURCE: wiring a 220v single phase motor and capacitor

Black and white are usually power. an ohmmeter will confirm. Brown are for capacitors. There is almost always a diagram on the motor someplace. Eric

SOURCE: top element not working all wires are connected

Very possible the element on top has a break some where but maybe small enough you cant see it or could be hiden. If you have access to a multimeter put it to ohms and with it unplugged from the outlet take the wires off the element and check the element itself if the multimeter reads OL the element is bad.

SOURCE: Replacing a pull chain 3-way ceiling fan light switch

OK .. the thick black and white are the power for the fan , are there also white wires on the lamp sockets ..??
The thick black wire should connect to the black wire on the switch.
The small black wires connect to the red and blue wire on the switch .. two small black wires each .. that should give you a position for 2 lights , and 4 lights, on the step switch .. but there should be white wires from the lamp sockets connected to the thick white from the fan .

please respond .

SOURCE: Electric Chainsaw - chain stops when you try to cut!

Remove the bar and chain--check the sprocket and shaft for any mechanical damage. Try to turn the sprocket by hand in a CCW direction, does the shaft move with it? Does it seem to turn the motor? If the sprocket and shaft seem ok, then you may have a damaged gear (likely plastic) within the gearbox. Hope this helps!

Need help wiring a 5HP 1Phase motor on Powermatic 66

As you only have 4 wires from the motor it should be straight forward as two would be from the start winding (Black and red) and the other the run winding (White with yellow stripe and Blue). You should be able to check this with a tester as there should only be continuity between the wires as mentioned above.

Reference the thermal switch, I am not 100% sure on the color codes but have attached a diagram which should help but will advise as best as I can on the connection. The diagram is for a high/low voltage but you can disregard the winding on 3 and 4 but should help on the understanding.

Join the blue and black wire from the motor together and connect to the black wire from the supply. You should be able to run the motor (Excluding the thermal switch) by connecting the White with yellow stripe and the red wire together along with the white from the supply. To include this switch I would presume that you would connect the red wire from the motor to the brown wire from the thermal switch, the yellow wire from thermal switch to the White with yellow stripe from the motor and finally the white wire from the thermal switch to the white from the supply.

Battery powerd chainsaw will not start

It's possible that one of the motor brushes may have been damaged--also check their spring tension. The battery may be charged, but have no capacity. You will need to measure the battery voltage directly when trying to start the motor. If it falls to zero, then you either have a poor connection at the battery, or it needs to be replaced (under warranty?). Hope this helps!

there are several trouble shooting you can perform:
1. Check the plug particularly teh wire attached on it.almost all of the wires of a power tools got damage on the wires itself due to a continous moving when working.
2. Somtimes there is a built-in fuse or breaker.
3. Check the Switch.sometimes the spring materials of a switch is malfuncioning and it couldn't connect the conductor to run a power.
4. Check your carbon Brush. You must replace it if it is already below 1/4 inch long.
5.Can you feel a little vibration when you switch the unit?if that so,check the bearing because it is surely the bearing has damaged because the armature and core of the motor is already touching each other thats why it will not rotate anymore..

Have an old sears craftsman 1/4 hp grinder model 397.19501 wires have been disconnected. I want to rewire and test. Does anyone know how to connect the wires? There are 2 copper tabs under the on/off...

the two copper tabs under the on off switch are to break the power source.connect incoming power to one of these(black) then a short piece of wire from the other tab under switch to one of the three tabs under plate that is marked hot or l1 is probably #2 but you need to be sure. the white is the nuetral or l2 which is most likely #3 and the green is the ground most likely #4 I would definately look online for a wiring diagram to be sure if they are not marked with L1 L2 and GND
