Using bigger than 64 MB compact Flash Cards

I own a Janome Memory Craft 9700 Embroidery Machine. It uses Compact Flash Cards to download your designs to, I use 1 GB Flash Cards, I purchased 2 GB Flash Cards and can't get the software to download designs to it. My question is can it be done or is 64 MB supposedly the biggest you can use?

thank you for your help

I never went and took the free classes with the machine. I had a 5700 before this one. I am finding out I didn't know enough about either machine.

    Thank you

Thank you I didn't know that would you please explain better how or why you need to put the card into the machine first to format it. Do you mean you put a blank card into the sewing machine and the sewing machine then formats it? Thank you again for all of your help.

  • dunifin Apr 16, 2009

Yes I do download designs from the internet but I am careful of where I get them and what the copyright laws are with the designs that I use.

Thank you once again you have been very helpful. It appears I need to go back and reread my book and look at my DVD that came with the machine and software.

I have the same machine and if you watch the dvd included with the machine it says to use a MC no bigger than 1 gb. I use a 512mb and it works fine. Your computer may not have a MC port so you will have to purchase a memory card reader which you can purchase on ebay or at Fry's for around 10 dollars. All the files need to be saved on the MC card as a SEW or JEF file. When you go to your machine touch the emb. key then the disc key and you should see your files. You may also need to turn the page; sometimes it save it on different pages.

You will probably not be able to find a MC smaller than 2MB in a electronic store so check E-Bay. You can also buy them from Janome but I think they are more expensive. You are also supposed to put the card into your machine first to format it. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • pixiechic Apr 16, 2009

Yes, most of the times the card is formatted but you want to make sure. I really do not understand how that works (putting it is blank to format it) but that is what I was told to do. From what I understand they are usually formatted to work with the machine. Are you downloading fonts and designs from the internet or use?

The largest compact flash disk that you can use is a 512. You can buy them on Amazon and other places. Just Google 512 compact flash disk.

Mmm I suggest that you try another flash card, I have encountered several that do not work properly, and there appear to be several scam copies with nothing in.

My wife has a Janome 5700 Memory Craft sewing machine along with a number of Janome memory cards containing embroidery designs. Is it possible to transfer the designs from these memory cards to her Windows...

I don't have a 5700,mine is a 9000 but the cards that came with mine are a plastic aprox 1 inch square. This machine came out before there was any type of interface to connect to a back up system ie; USB or firewire. I would assume that if you can download new patterns from the internet, than you could back them up.If your machine does not have that capability then you will just have to find new memory cards for you machine online and order them.

I cannot transfer a pic to my mc1000 via pc link (usb)

First check your OS version. I think you have the x64 version of Windows 8; this is the most common version (except for Windows 8 RT which has other issues). To check, in the desktop, press the Windows key and x simultaneously on your keyboard (or launch the Charms sidebar and choose Settings). Select Control Panel and go to System and Security. Click on the System link and look for the System Type. If it reads 64-bit OS, your card reader 10000 won't work. The drivers were only written for a 32-bit OS.

If this is the case, you need to find some 512MB Compact Flash cards and a compact flash reader/writer (if your computer doesn't have a card reader). Amazon still lists a few of these cards. Then just copy the designs to the CF card.

I hope this helps.

I want to sell my 1991 New Home memory Craft 8000 sewing machine

A good place to see what machines are selling for is Ebay. That's where I sold a sewing machine and an embroidery machine.

It helps to know your product and machine embroidery lingo.

What are cassettes? Floppy disks? These make the machine borderline obsolete.

Memory cards are still around, but most EM now have USB connectivity or USB flash drives.

Satin thread? Embroidery machines use Rayon or Polyester embroidery thread.

Having had the machine recently serviced is also a plus.

I bought a 2 gb compact flash card. Are these not

It appears that the 9700 works with Type II CFD's.

I think that the 2 Gb cards are ULTRA II's which likely will not work with your 9700. The 512's are getting harder to find as well...

I have purchased a Janome 9700 embroidery machine and it came with a disc of designs (jef format) . I have downloaded the designs on to the memory card and can view them via the computer but they do not...

Since you are able to view them from the ATA (Compact Flash) card on your computer and the designs are in *.jef format you should be able open them on your machine. Make sure you have selected to view designs from the ATA memory card and not the ones stored on the machine or from the External Card Reader box.
There is an additional program called Customizer that you can import designs, edit, and transfer them to your ATA card. Mine was part of my package deal when I purchased by 9700.

The solution was sooo easy.....one of my online embroidery groups suggested to put the card in my Janome and let the machine format it. It took about a minute and did not tell me what it was doing..and It worked! It put two folders on my card, Emb5 and ord#5, and I was to copy the jef files into the Emb5 folder, which I did and bingo! my Janome 9500 read the card and produced a screen with my jef files in it. I am a happy camper....I don't know if this works with all Janome machines but it did with mine.
Thanks for being here to help.

Downloading embroidary designs for the Janome MC 350E

Firstly, format your compact flash card on your embroidery machine. This is presuming you have embroidery files in your jef format your machine reads on your computer. Place your compact flash in the compact flash card reader writer connected to your computer, open the compact flash card in your computer, open the file emb5. Now you can simply copy and paste a design from your computer to your flash card. It works for me. Goodluck.
