How do you connect up two PCs to Share Documents?

If they have NIC ports, get a crossover cable or a switch and a router. If they both have internet access, try dropbox (http://www.dropbox.com). You can also get a USB data transfer cable that will work. Another option is to use wi-fi or bluetooth for the connection.

Using a crossover cable to connect two computers.

Hi.

You can use a crossover cable to share files and folders between the two computers.

A crossover cable looks exactly the same as any Ethernet cable, but its internal wiring is reversed respect to the regular cables used to connect computers to routers or switches.Crossover cables have the 1st and 3rd wires (counting from left to right) crossed, and the 2nd and 6th wires crossed, thay can be recognised because the word Crossover is printed on top of the cable.

Before proceeding ensure that the cable you are using is a crossover. Crossover wiring isdifferent. By using an ordinary ethernet cable you will not be able to extablish a directconnection between computers.

To use the crossover you will need to disconnect any other cable connection to computer ethernet cards. Naturally both computers must have a wired network adapter installed .

After connecting the crossover, you will need to configure the network connection.

Turn off both computers, connect the crossover (cat5 or cat6) cable, and turn back on computers.

Ensure that all firewallare turned off, and on Vista answer yes to all requests of authorization for the new network.

On both computers go to system properties, and ensure that the two computers have the same workgroup.

Second step is going to Sharing and Security, in system properties, and sharing the files and folder that you want to transfer.

Once the folders are shared you will see in My computer (Computer on Vista) the folder shared from the other computer. Simply copy and paste the files.

You may be asked to restart computer after each step.

If after sharing files and folder you want to share Internet connection, then you will have to assign two IP addresses that are in the same range to the two connected computers.
An IP address is a series of numbers from 1 to 256, in the format XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX . The two IP addresses must share the first three numbers to share the internet connection. In the real case, you can set the IP adresses to 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2.

Networking with xp n windows7 system

If you are connecting directly from computer to computer, you need a crossover cable (Cable specific to direct computer to computer connection) otherwise you need two cables and a hub/switch/router to connect.

# We are connect two computers together to share Internet, printer, scanner, files, and even programs

We can do it through either way:

1- Use A Crossover Cable And Two Network Cards. Two network cards are installed in two computers. Then use crossover cable to connect them.

2- Use a Phone Line and Two Special Adapters Sold as "Phone line network Kit". Two adapters are installed in two computers. Then use existing Phone line to connect them.

Connecting Two Computers Wirelessly:

1- Wi-Fi
2- Bluetooth
3- Infrared

Several types of fixtures exist for home networking:

1- Hubs
2- Switches
3- Routers

2- Computer with the internet

Before you can connect to the Internet and access the World Wide Web, you need to have certain equipment. In brief, you must have:

-A computer (preferably running an up-to-date operating system); -
-A modem and access to a telephone line or a local area network (LAN) that is in turn connected to the Internet; and connection software that will allow you to establish an account with a service provider and access the Internet

You Need:

Modem: This converts your digital computer information into analogue telephone signals. Phone Line: his may be your biggest expense after the equipment.

Internet Service Provider (ISP): ISP has a permanent connection to the Internet.

ADSL: a newly standardized transmission technology facilitating simultaneous use of normal telephone services, data transmission of 6 Mbit/s in the downstream and Basic-rate Access (BRA).

ADSL facilitates the simultaneous use of normal telephone services, ISDN, and high speed data transmission.

Another advantage of having an ADSL line is not missing calls while you're online, as both voice and data can be transferred at the same time.

Transfering data from one computer to another

I think there is no way to do that. You CAN do it, however, with a crossover cable. It looks the same as a regular cable, but it's not. With the crossover cable, just connect the two computers and give 'em two IP's in the same network. Then enable file sharing and it should work. Sorry, I can't go into much detail because I haven't done that in a looong time, but I think that's about it. Hope it helps.

Crossover Cable

crossover cables are designed to connect two DCEs (data communication equipments like modems) or two DTEs(data terminal equipments like computers)
most routers nowadays have smart ports so you can use either a crossover or a straight-through cable to connect a computer. but if your router doesn't have smart ports, it's advisable to use straight-through cables

hope this'll help you

ciao!

Ok you've done something that I'm not real sere that you wanted to do. You're trying to connect a gateway/modem to a layer 2 highly configureable web switch. It may/may not require any crossover cables this canbe determined later.
First however you the 100WR must be configured A) Plug-in the power B) Plugin a "4" wire telephone cable this may not be nessarry however I do not know anything about your service provider and a few do require this also make sure that there is no alarm system on the same line or you will have to call your phone company or alarm company. plug the telephone line from the wall to the 1000WR now you should get not only the power light but the internet/adsl light now on the back of the 1000WR is a series of 4 or so ethernet ports. Connect an ethernet cable between the port and your computer you will see that your computer will try to get a connection how it shows it will be some kind of network signal on microsoft products, also a light will light on the 1000WR if not get a crossover. To go any furter is a shot in the dark what I need is what is your operating system the reason you are useing a layer 2 web switch (bet you paid a lot for it) and who we are connceting to
