Yes i believe the problem is the microphone in the camera, just open up unit find microphone disconect it and replace with exact mic from radio shack catalog...or try to find a mic from another electronic device of the same size ( fixed mine with a mic that was inside a cellphone headset wire.) hope this helps... but i am almost possitive your mic is shot from your syptoms

Everything works except it doesn't display any video while recording but will when playing back tape from another camera. Records audio like it's supposed to. Camera was in storage for 2 years.

Hello Howard

I am thinking/sounds like that the problem is in the LCD display. How old is the camera, as it been stored in a safe location to avoid any serious damage and/or a dry location. Could possible where the display opens on the camera. May be you could find a local Sony dealer to take a look at it for you.
Please let me know the out come of your camera.
Ben.

I Can not see picture and also hear the sound when i play back my recorded ...

try running a head cleaning tape for about 5 to 10 seconds and then try to play your tape again. If it improves, but is not yet right, repeat process. We use a Sony 8mm Head Cleaner in our repair shop (for minor cleaning issues) and it works great....lasts a really long time too.

Hope this helps you

possible ccd issue.screen indicators for sure is ok, and viewfinder would show same black screen.this model is included in a recall by sony because of a defect in the ccd imaging sensor years back.but sad to say the program (and even the extension for it) is no longer available for all affected camcorder models. now it only includes the dsct1 and dscf717 dig cams.i.m sorry this unit would need replacement of the ccd imaging sensor.hope this info helps.thanks.

How do I erase a hi8 tape on a sony ccd trv318 camcorder

Don't think you can erase it, just record over it.
If you really have to erase something you don't want on it, you can always rewind and then put on the lense cap and record.

Your video heads are probably dirty. I have the same problem with mine too. If you buy a 8mm video cassette cleaner, it should work. Unless there is some other problem.

Very unclear picture when in camera mode

This problem has been answered and solved. It's a defect which Sony will fix. Go to their web site and service /support should explain what the problem looks like and that (if your problem really is the same) they will fix it free including shipping. I've done it already on my CCD-TRV318.
